Sayo's two years at the Academy—and the frenzied self-study that followed—had left him with a terrifying store of theoretical knowledge, yet his body remained his greatest shackle. Refining Chakra was like drawing water from an almost-dry well; each day yielded only the tiniest thread.

But in his hands, that single thread shone with a different light.

The basic Puppet Technique scroll gifted by Elder Chiyo was already memorized; the most difficult hurdle was forming and controlling Chakra Threads. One had to emit energy from the fingertips and condense it into invisible, stable lines to manipulate a puppet from a distance. For most apprentices, this was an insurmountable wall that took years to master.

For Sayo, however, it was his absolute domain.

The microscopic chakra control he had forged under the extreme conditions of his weak body showed a terrifying efficacy. On his first try, he guided that faint wisp to his fingertip. A thought, and an invisible, crystal-clear line shot out like silk, linking to a wooden block several meters away. He crooked a finger; the block shifted as obediently as his own arm.

"As expected," Sayo whispered, his black eyes gleaming. "For puppetry, the precision of control matters far more than the quantity of chakra."

With the core formula mastered, real creation began. He was no longer content with single parts; he craved a complete, autonomous creation. Blending puppet mechanics, basic runes, sealing logic, and the Bionics of his previous life, a blueprint took shape in his mind.

He would build a Scouting Puppet. Given his pitiful reserves, it had to be ultra-light and energy-efficient. He chose the perfect biological model: The Spider.

Eight legs provided superb stability and obstacle-clearing capabilities. He used no precious metals—only cheap wood off-cuts and metal scrap. For a Power Core, he carved an ultra-tiny array of Energy-Gathering Runes on metal dust. It was a primitive "ambient battery" inspired by Bunpuku's talks of Natural Energy.

The control system was a stroke of engineering genius: a single Chakra Thread sent simple binary pulses. Inside the puppet, crude mechanical levers and tiny springs translated these pulses into physical movements like "forward" or "turn." By pre-programming the "intelligence" into the hardware, Sayo slashed the real-time chakra cost to nearly zero.

For days, Sayo spent every free moment in the Maintenance Squad's corner. With a coping saw and engraving needles, he carved piece by piece. His fingers were often nicked, but he merely applied his clumsy Healing Technique and kept working.

Sharyu watched in silence, occasionally handing his son a specialized tool or pointing out a stress point in the leg joints. As the eight-legged form took shape, amazement replaced the worry in the father's eyes.

Finally, under the glow of a setting sun, Sayo tightened the final screw.

A palm-sized spider lay on his hand. It was ugly—a crude wooden box with spindly rod legs—but it was his. Sayo drew a deep breath, focusing his mind. An invisible thread connected his fingertip to the receptor on the spider's back. He injected his meager wisp of chakra.

Buzz... The rune on the core flashed with a dim light. Inside the puppet, there was the faint, rhythmic click of engaging gears. Sayo sent a "forward" pulse.

The wooden spider's legs began moving in a stiff, steady rhythm. It crawled from his palm onto the table, nimbly climbed over a pen, and squeezed beneath a book. Its gait was a perfect mimicry of a living arachnid: slow, deliberate, and astonishingly stable.

Success.

Sayo's heart pounded. He tried "turn," "stop," even raising a fore-leg to tap a scrap of paper. Every command was executed flawlessly. It had no attack power, and its range was limited to the length of his thread, but for a seven-year-old with a "broken" body, it was a miracle of engineering.

With the most trivial energy and the crudest materials, he had given dead matter life. Watching the tireless little machine crawl across the desk, Sayo's eyes blazed. This was the starting point of his dream—proof that even a frail body could stride toward power through the absolute mastery of wit.

He named it: Spider.
