Kumogakure's assault came like a violent storm—swift and lethal. From the southeastern coastline, long considered Sunagakure's weakest defensive sector, no one had expected the mighty Cloud to sail the long way round and hurl its finest straight into that very spot.
The opening skirmish was almost a one-sided slaughter. Coast patrols and the first reinforcements found themselves powerless against Cloud elites spearheaded by the A-B Combination. Savage Lightning Release jutsu tore the flimsy fortifications apart, and the Cloud's trademark brutal taijutsu and blinding speed punched hole after hole in Suna's hastily formed line. Screams, explosions, thunder, and desert wind blended into a cruel overture of war.
Just as the line was about to collapse for good, several mighty chakras slammed into the battlefield like immovable pillars, halting the rout dead.
"Scorch Release: Extreme Steaming Murder!"
A cold, sharp cry cut through the clamor. A lithe figure darted between Cloud ninja who had broken through. Bright orange spheres drifted out and settled precisely over her targets. Before the fierce Cloud shinobi could even scream, their bodies withered, carbonized, toppling as blackened, desiccated mummies.
"It's Lady Pakura!" The surviving Suna burst into cheers. Pakura's Bloodline Limit, "Scorch," flash-boils every drop of water in a victim; its efficiency was feared on any battlefield. Her arrival instantly steadied a pocket of the line.
Meanwhile, on the other flank, young Baki showed the makings of an elite Jōnin. His large-scale Wind jutsu swept wide, razor-sharp. Howling gales whipped up blinding sand, ruining Cloud vision and scythed down enemies in swathes, buying precious seconds for comrades to rally.
At the very center, where the pressure was fiercest, a brother-sister pair stole the spotlight. Older sister Karura wielded unique sand-like chakra, raising sturdy barriers to shield allies. Younger brother Yashamaru fought with vicious finesse, ghosting along the edge with poisoned senbon and exploding tags. Their flawless teamwork held an entire Cloud assault squad at bay.
Yet what truly reversed the early rout was the figure who suddenly appeared on the foremost line, commanding a sky-full of glittering gold.
"Magnet Release: Gold Dust Lattice!"
With a steady, thunderous roar, countless grains of gold burst from the desert, forming a vast, ever-shifting defensive rampart that slammed into the Cloud's vanguard. Cloud ninja watched in horror as their Lightning jutsu barely scorched the gold and their speed was swallowed by the heavy, clinging dust.
The gold parted, revealing the man behind it—Rasa. Though not yet Kazekage, Rasa's mighty Magnet Release had become the emblem of Suna's hope. Gold is much denser than regular sand, and as a conductor of electricity, Rasa was using it to ground the Cloud's lightning attacks, rendering their most potent jutsu ineffective.
The carnage settled into a brief stalemate. Every Suna ninja knew this was only the beginning—the Cloud would not stop, and the fabled A-B Combination had yet to fight at full strength.
Team Iryō reached the battlefield's edge. "Split up! Hit their weak spots!" Captain Iryō ordered.
Sayo's eyes swept the field, analyzing in an instant. He saw Rasa clashing with the main force and Pakura holding the flank. "Captain, I'm taking the flank—puppets are needed there," Sayo said coolly, already unsealing the scroll on his back.
His Ōgumo (Great Spider) puppet, now upgraded with the Natural Energy Core, was no longer just a transport vehicle. It was a mobile artillery platform. As he channeled his chakra, the magnetic levitation runes on the spider's feet began to hum, lifting the heavy machine slightly off the sand for maximum mobility.
His own battle had begun.
