After learning the secrets of the Spirit Siphoning Seal from the monk Bunpuku and Shukaku, Sayo's mind became wholly fixated on that faintly glowing shard. He didn't rush into large-scale application; he knew one misstep could doom everything. Instead, he chose the safest, most cautious path—starting with a minuscule fragment to upgrade the familiar puppet core, the very foundation of all his plans.
His temporary workshop had become a forbidden zone bristling with sealing arrays. Specially formulated ink sketched complex barriers across the floor, isolating energy ripples and preventing accidental outflows. At the center of the workbench, the original puppet core had been carefully opened, revealing its energy-conversion heart. Beside it, a speck of God-Tree debris—nearly invisible—lay wrapped in layers of fine Spirit Siphoning Seal runes, like a slumbering stellar core.
Sayo drew a deep breath, formed hand seals, and focused his mental power. The vast spiritual strength of a man who had lived two lives let him guide every thread of chakra with surgical care, slowly seating the sealed fragment into the core's central socket.
"Seal!"
With the final seal, the core's casing snapped shut. The workbench barrier flared, humming low and steady. For a moment, silence. The core lay inert. Sayo held his breath, senses straining. Suddenly the core quivered; the conduction circuits meant for chakra lit with a soft, pure, golden glow, as though granted new life.
Success? No—only the beginning!
He could feel a faint gravitational field forming around the tiny shard. Wild, omnipresent Natural Energy was drawn toward it bit by bit, like iron filings to a magnet. Yet the attracted Natural Energy did not flood straight in; it first met the outermost Spirit Siphoning Seal. Ancient runes lit one by one, acting as precise filters and governors, forcing the torrent to slow, to calm, to trickle.
Only then was the tamed stream allowed into the core's original conversion matrix—where marvels unfolded. The intricate arrays inside, once meant merely to convert chakra, now found a new purpose: harmonizing and amplifying. A gentler energy, purer and vaster than chakra, closer to life's origin, began to well up at the heart of the core.
The newborn energy carried a pale milky sheen and a heart-soothing vitality, yet it held unimaginable potential. Stripped of Natural Energy's ferocity and far superior to ordinary chakra, it filled the core's circuits with a stable, warm radiance. Sayo cautiously threaded a wisp of his own chakra into the core, trying to guide the new power.
Hum—
The core chimed in delight. A pure, gentle current answered his call, flowing back along his chakra strand. Obedient, easy to control, its stability and strength outstripped anything he had achieved with large infusions of ordinary chakra.
"It worked…" Sayo whispered, barely containing his excitement.
He had fused a sliver of God-Tree debris with the Spirit Siphoning Seal inside a puppet core, creating a device that passively absorbed ambient Natural Energy and converted it into a vast, gentle new power. No longer a mere chakra converter, it was a self-cycling, self-powering—
"Entry-Level Natural Energy Puppet Core!"
He bestowed the epoch-making creation with a new name. Eager, he began performance tests. First he linked it to a simple puppet arm; the limb moved with fluid strength, precision soared, and it operated several times longer than before while the core's output stayed rock-steady.
Next he tried connecting it to the Body Tempering Furnace. Limited by the core's size and the tiny shard, total output couldn't yet sustain full-body reinforcement, but the purity and vitality of the energy flooding him far surpassed anything chakra had ever given. Even in micro-doses, it left every cell singing.
"Perfect…" Sayo gazed at the softly glowing core, eyes shining with a creator's joy and limitless hope for the future. The energy bottleneck was shattered at last!
It was only an entry-level version, using an almost negligible fragment, but it proved the concept sound. It laid the firmest energy foundation for upgrading the Body Tempering Furnace—and for building his dream mag-lev puppet, Mirage.
The first paving stone on the road to greater power now lay in his hand.
