PROLOGUE

Where Love Lives

Love is a quiet thing.

It does not always arrive with urgency or passion loud enough for the world to notice. Sometimes it slips in unnoticed, gentle and steady, settling into places that were never meant to hold it.

They said love had rules.

That it should come at the right time.

That it should exist between people who matched—by age, by season, by society's careful measurements.

But love had never learned how to behave.

She was too young, they said.

He was too old, they murmured.

Their lives were not meant to intersect.

Yet love does not ask for permission.

It simply finds a place to live—and once it does, it stays.
