Chapter 20 - Classes

(April, year 52 AK)

Yuta found his classroom and entered.

'Hm, it's only a few people here, am I too early?' Yuta thought as he walked inside and looked around, 'Great, let's take the "protagonist" seat, the backrow one by the window!' He thought jokingly, 'Although the class is not of the usual type and more like a university auditorium with the desks being higher the further they are from the front, and the desks are wide, for three people each I assume.'

As he walked up to the backrow, he decided to take a second-last row instead, as all the way back was quite far. He sat down and patiently waited for the class to start.

In the next thirty minutes the class was gradually filled up with students. Yuta observed the coming students, but he didn't manage to recognize Itachi. There were quite a few black-haired boys wearing the Uchiha crest, and everyone looked a bit different in real life than in the anime.

Yuta's desk wasn't left all to himself either, a blond guy sat beside him to his right.

"Hi, you seem like a chill guy, my name is Hideto." The blond guy said casually as he sat down beside Yuta.

"Hi, my name is Yuta." Yuta calmly replied and looked at the class door being opened.

A man in his thirties wearing shinobi attire, walked into the class with confidence, "My name is Mamoru Ikeda, and I'm your class teacher." The man gives a stern look as he observed the class.

The classroom becomes silent, everyone starts to listen to the class teacher attentively.

"All of you were accepted into the Ninja Academy as students, but there is still a long road ahead of you until you will be able to call yourself a shinobi!" Manabu started his speech with conviction and a fanatical glint in his eyes.

"Becoming the Ninja Academy students means that you now carry on the hope and the great expectations of our village! ..."

...

Mamoru went on and on about the village's hope, pride and shinobi's duties, about giving your all for the sake of the village.

Then after a short break he spoke about the village's great achievements, the greatness of the strongest Hokage, about Hokage's titles - "The Professor" and "God of Shinobi".

By the time the first day at the academy ended, Yuta felt the flame of pride for the village was burning brightly in his chest, as well as the heavy burden of village's expectations and duty were weighted on his shoulders... Until by the time he came home after the academy's first day around 6 pm, he finally snapped out of it and remembered who he truly is and what his true goals were...

'What pride, what duties, damn it...' Yuta felt stupid, 'I am an outsider, I took over the body of the one of this village's kids and now I'm pretending to be one of them, but I'm not! I shouldn't fool myself!'

'Maybe if I were to fully embrace the original Yuta's memories and feelings, I would've become Yuta Arai in a true sense, and would've been able to call myself a true Konoha shinobi... But that wasn't possible, and neither did I want to do that. That would've meant to destroy my own personality and to become someone else entirely, that is out of the question.'

'This world is all about the constant struggle, wars, and tragedies, it also about the power and personal strength above all else.'

'Naturally, since I ended up as Konoha's future shinobi, I can call this place my new home and look after its interests and protect it and its people.'

'But I shouldn't forget that I'm an outsider, I'm not one of them, I have my own interests that is more important to me than Konoha, I would never sacrifice myself for the sake of the village, I'm only pretending to be fully loyal to Konoha, that is the truth about it.'

...

'Damn, Mamoru is truly skilled in brainwashing kids into becoming the proper tools for the village, the shinobi that will be completely loyal to the village and will sacrifice themselves for the sake of it. Even I was deeply affected by it, and it was only the first day!'

Yuta cooked some food and had a dinner, then put the leftovers into the fridge for the next day's breakfast and to take some with him to the academy for lunch, as he was quite hungry for the latter half of the day as he didn't bring any food with him for lunch and was too stingy with his cash to waste it on food during the lunch break.

Then he went to buy some other things he didn't accounted for the day before, like a notebook and a pen to take notes in class, a bag to carry stuff, and a lunchbox for tomorrow, he ended up spending another 500 Ryo on this things and his budged for the month wasn't looking good at all...

'Well, nothing I can do about it, better to suck it up I guess...' He thought.

As he bought those things, it was already around 7 pm and the sun was closing up to the horizon, it was about two hours before dark, so Yuta decided to explore the area around his house to find suitable training grounds for him.

After wandering around for an hour Yuta found a small patch of trees with a tiny lake in the middle, he looked around this training ground and didn't find any fresh-looking traces of anyone using this place for training recently.

'Perfect, this will do.' Yuta thought while being satisfied with the place, 'It's only ten minutes of walking distance from home, in the direction away from the center of the village, and it doesn't look like this place has many visitors. Since I'm already here, and my chakra is full, let's not waste time.'

Yuta put his bag on the ground and taken off most of his clothes and walked to the lake. He cleared his mind and concentrated on the task at hand, like he did multiple times before, he concentrated his chakra on the sole of his feet and slowly stepped on the surface of water.

By regulating the chakra flow and intensifying it further as he puts more weight on his feet, he briefly found some balance and his feet was properly repelled from the surface of water as he put his whole weight on it, then he made a step and put his another feet on the water and desperately tried to balance the weight and adjust the chakra flow accordingly to properly stand on the surface of water.

At first, for a second or two, he managed to stand on water, there was a lot of ripples that was going from his feet and he was having a bad time trying desperately to establish and maintain the balance, but shortly after he slipped and lost the balance and fell into the water.

'Damn this is hard...' Yuta thought frustratedly as he came out of the water, 'Although this is already better than all the previous attempts.'

He continues the same procedure with trial and error, and after a couple of minutes he noticed that his chakra was already depleted to an extent that he was no longer able to gather enough of it to properly attempt to stand on water anymore.

'A shame. Although my chakra reserve was sure grown a lot, it's still quite low. I'm sure that most Genin won't have a hard time standing on water for a while.' Yuta analyzed while dressing up.

As he dressed up, he decided to not waste time and to do his usual workout next. Going through his usual set of simple exercises, he continued to analyze his chakra reserves.

'If I'm to assume the numeric value to my chakra reserves, I need a point of reference to do that. As of now I only have myself at a different time in past and present to serve as a reference, for example, my chakra was many times lower when I only learned to sense and control it.'

'I can also use my estimate understanding of how much chakra a normal Genin should have, considering said Genin went through six years of academy and one or two years of active duty as a shinobi. Said Genin, in my understanding, should have enough chakra to stand on water, let's say for ten minutes, and also have enough chakra to spare for a few low-rank jutsus on top of that.'

'I have no idea if such standard is realistic or not, but for now I will take that as a reference of the chakra reserves of a one normal Genin. Let's give it a numerical value of 1.'

'Considering that, I should have somewhere around 0.5 of that chakra amount right now. With how much chakra I waste on the Water-Walking exercise due to my lack of control and skill to properly stand on water, that causes me to waste much more chakra than a proper standing on water should actually take, this estimate should be accurate enough.'

As Yuta went through the exercises, it was already starting to go dark, he started to run laps around the training grounds as his last exercise and continued his train of thoughts.

'Remembering how much chakra I had back when I only learned to sense it, it was probably around 0.05 if not lower, that means it was at least ten times lower than it is now.'

'Also considering my time-travel, and the amounts of chakra I sensed in me before and after my time-travel all the way back to the starting point, I can conclude that most of my chakra comes from spiritual energy, and only about twenty percent if not less – from my body, the physical energy.'

'This disbalance makes me a little bit concerned though. While I don't feel any problems or discomfort yet, it might become an issue in the future...'

'Also, even with my chakra grown ten times over the past year and a half of objective time, or rather a little over three years of subjective time with all the time-travels, the rate of its growth is still feels quite slow, considering that it wasn't even on the level of 1 Genin yet. With how it currently goes - I'll reach a 1.0 of a Genin level of chakra in about six months or so, but not more than a year.'

...

As Yuta finished his workout, it was already completely dark and he went home, feeling fully exhausted.

'Well, considering that I have six years in the academy, and I assume I'll reach the level of chakra of a normal Genin by the end of the first year at the very least, it's not as slow as it feels, really...' Yuta thought enthusiastically as he went home.

'Still a long road ahead, Mamoru was totally right about that...'

--- AN ---

Who should be used as a point of reference next, how about the classic popular choice of Kakashi? The "chakra amount of 6.9 Kakashi" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
