Elara's laughter caught me off guard. It wasn't mocking—more surprised than anything—but it still made my chest tighten.
Was I not even allowed to think about it?
"But isn't it true? You're an Alpha, and when the time comes… don't you need to do that with an Omega?"
She laughed again, her eyes actually tearing up. After laughing heartily for a while, she finally composed herself.
My face began to burn with a mix of shame and anger.
"I might find someone else," she said.
It sounded more like a statement than a hypothetical.
I had known this was possible. I had prepared myself for it in theory. But hearing it out loud felt like a heavy weight dropping into my stomach.
