Seraphina sat back on the velvet cushions, letting out a small, satisfied sigh.
Across from her, Kaelus was watching her intently.
His violet eyes were soft, completely lacking their usual harsh edge.
"You did not cry," Kaelus noted, his voice carrying a faint, inquisitive lilt. "I anticipated another... significant emotional discharge upon separation."
Seraphina crossed her arms, looking at him with immense smugness. "I do not cry over temporary separations, Papa. I am a Sovereign. I know we will meet again. Besides, Cedric still owes me a demonstration of blowing up a potion!"
Kaelus's eyebrow twitched violently as he stared at her.
"If that boy attempts to bring volatile alchemical compounds within a fifty-mile radius of you, I will freeze his blood. I will not have my daughter lacking eyebrows."
"It's just character building!" Seraphina argued happily, picking up a piece of blank parchment to begin a new flock of ducks.
