CHAPTER 1
Tom West was sitting on a rooftop that was really wet from the rain. His eyes were fixed on the R&D tower in Sector 4 which had a lot of guards around it. The rain was coming down hard on the streets of Zhilak-12. It was making the neon signs reflect off the ground like they were oil and they were blinking like stars that were going out. The whole city was covered in a smell that came from all the technology and magic stuff. It was like a joke that nobody thought was funny. You could see projections, from the augmented reality and you could hear strange humming noises and screams from far away but they were muffled by the big walls of the companies.
Toms smart guitars, which are like guitars that can also be used to hack into things were making a buzzing noise in his jacket. They sounded like bugs that cannot sit still. Tom got a message, from Lix, the person he talks to in secret:
"The people at West they are doing tests on these things called Eldrich drives at their lab. I heard they are trying to figure out how to use old power sources. It sounds like some kind of magic stuff . I need you to sneak into the lab and get some information for me. You have to be careful. I heard they have people working for them who're not totally human they have been changed with some old technology from before the Apostasy. These people are like it had been going on for ten years. It caused a lot of trouble, between the tech people and the magicians of Zhilak-12. Some people thought The Apostasy was a war. Others thought it was a way to get rid of bad things. Tom did not think about The Apostasy much. He had a job to do. That was what mattered to him.
Tom slid down a fire escape, blended into the shadows like a bat!. The security mesh on the tower looked like a spider web. It was a mix of traps that used computers to catch people and magic barriers. Tom got his guitars ready he wanted to break the pattern of the security mesh, on the tower. He was ready to use his guitars to mess up the traps and barriers on the tower. The tower had a lot of security. Tom was going to try to get past it with his guitars.
Something crazy just happened, a girl with blue eyes that seemed to be on fire came falling down from a roof above. She landed softly on the ground like a person you can not see. She was wearing big boots with lots of buckles and laces. Her weird hair was moving around as she pointed one of her hands, which had a glove on it at Tom. The girl, with burning eyes was now ready to do something to Tom.
"Tom West, you are deeper in this situation than I thought".
Toms hand automatically reached for a guitar pick. He did not take it out. He told himself to play it. Tom wanted to stay calm and play cool.
Tom said "Who is asking?" He looked very casual. He was smiling a little bit.
The girl's smile was a thin line. "I am Lyra, Lix sent me. I guess you are not answering your calls."
Lyra put away her tech-gun. She said "Eldrich drives are very dangerous they can go off at any moment". Our job is to go and get the information we need then leave as quickly as we can. Do not try to be a hero, West. Just get the data, from the Eldrich drives. Get out of there safely."
Tom raised an eyebrow. He said "When did Lix start sending babysitters to people?"
Lyras blue eyes kept changing fast it was like the picture, on a television when it is not getting a good signal.
People have been disappearing since they started vanishing . Now the people who are left are moving. The Tower is going to lock down.
Tom nodded. "Then we should move now!!".
Lyra and Tom sprinted toward the tower. Lyra pulled out a smoke grenade. Threw it. The black smoke, from the smoke grenade completely covered Lyra and Tom.
In all the chaos caused by the smoke grenade Tom started working on the computer system to hack the mesh.
After Tom hacked the mesh the doors of the tower suddenly shunt open.
Inside, the proxies lurched forward. These were ex-humans with glowing veins and cold smiles on their faces. Lyra pulled out her tech-knives. Then Tom strummed a guitar chord loudly. This was too much, for one of the proxies. The proxys head exploded because of a data-packet overload. The proxies were really getting out of control. Lyra and Tom were ready to take on the proxies.
The Towers artificial intelligence went completely crazy. There were stun blasts and magic shards flying over the place. Tom and Lyra had to duck into a ventilation shaft fast.
"We need to get into the lab now " Lyra shouted, "The Eldrich drives are live ."
Tom grinned. "Then let us crash the party."
They walked into a lab with glass panels. There were lots of Eldrich drives over the place. These Eldrich drives were really cool. They had symbols on them that were lit up like bright lights.
A scientist who was wearing a suit to protect himself from bad things turned around. The scientist had a crazy look, in his eyes.
"You are too late" he said. The Bloodline is what I am talking about. The Bloodline is the problem.
A proxy slammed him into a console. This was really bad. Sparks were flying everywhere, the computer drives started making a lot of noise. Whirred louder. The proxy was still pushing him into the console.
Something strange happened. A holographic interface started to flicker. Then a message appeared above the drives:
"The price of turning against something you believed in has been paid now the way is open. I have been given access, to the Blood of the Ancients".
The lab shook. This was a big deal. Ancient power surged through the place. Ancient power was surging everywhere. It was like nothing anyone had seen before. The ancient power was so strong it was amazing. The lab shook . Ancient power surged...
