Silvio, the eldest Council member, was a man of tradition. He believed his fortified villa in the North Hills was impenetrable. He had forty armed guards, a laser-grid perimeter, and a panic room that could withstand a nuclear blast.
Dante didn't attack the villa. He attacked the architecture.
Dante's hackers bypassed the villa's smart-home system. First, they turned off the air conditioning. Then, they locked every door and window from the inside. Finally, they bypassed the fire suppression system, flooding the house with a non-lethal but incapacitating sedative gas.
Dante arrived an hour later, wearing a gas mask. He walked through the halls of the "impenetrable" villa, stepping over the unconscious bodies of the guards like they were discarded rags.
He reached Silvio's bedroom. The old man was awake but paralyzed, his lungs heavy with the gas. He could only watch as Dante sat on the edge of his bed, looking like a demon in the green glow of his night-vision goggles.
"You told the Council I was sentimental, Silvio," Dante whispered, the mask distorting his voice into a metallic growl. "You thought the girl made me soft. But the girl didn't make me soft. She made me realize that I have something to lose. And a man with something to lose is the most dangerous predator in existence."
Dante didn't kill Silvio then. He did something worse. He forced Silvio to watch on a tablet as his entire legacy—his bank accounts, his property deeds, his history—was deleted in real-time.
"I'm not just taking your life," Dante said, standing up. "I'm erasing the fact that you ever existed. Tomorrow, the city will wake up and find your house empty. No bodies. No blood. Just... gone."
By sunrise, the villa was a hollow shell, and Silvio had disappeared into the "Grave," destined to spend the rest of his days in a room without windows.
