"I'll do it," Masha said when Ethan reached for Grey.
Ethan stopped mid-motion, his eyes narrowing in a way that made Masha pause. Only then did he realize he had been too familiar and personal for someone who was technically just a doctor.
He needed to hold himself back. He reminded himself.
As he lifted him, Grey didn't even shift, didn't so much as breathe differently. That stillness didn't worry him. He knew Grey was fine, even when he looked utterly gone.
He needed that deep unconscious sleep, the kind that left his body immobile but allowed his system to work in ways it needed.
When they reached the car, Masha eased Grey onto the back seat carefully, and when he was done, he stepped out.
"I'll be back in a second," he said before stepping back toward the house.
Jethro was already there, having exited the bathroom. He looked restless, a tautness to his movements that made Masha pause. He seemed ready to pace, but when his gaze met Masha's, he paused.
