Chapter 51: Enemy from Beyond the Heavens
Adam sat within that world symbolizing the spirit and collective subconscious; His gaze seemed to pierce the boundary between reality and illusion, quietly watching the invisible web of fate above Tingen City.
This industrial city, in His eyes, was originally a precise chessboard; every piece and every move had long been included in His script.
Ince Zangwill's actions, Madam Megose's fate, Klein Moretti's growth trajectory—everything should have been under His control, eventually leading to the final conclusion: the birth of the "God's Son."
Unfortunately, in His script, an uninvited "variable" had appeared.
This "variable," like a meteorite from beyond the heavens, crashed unreasonably into the small pond of Tingen City, and the ripples it stirred had disrupted the entire chessboard. This power brought a [Chaos] that even He did not understand and found somewhat troublesome.
Adam, who possessed the Uniqueness, knew very well that it was not "Authority."
What this "variable" brought was something more primordial, more pure.
A [Symbolism].
Even a true god possesses [Authority], not this [Symbolism] that is almost the concept itself.
So, is this a Sefirah?
Sefirah!
Is it a lost, unknown Sefirah?
Or... an Outer God?
An enemy from beyond the heavens, descending from the far side of the Cosmos?
For the first time, Adam's eternally calm and waveless thoughts surged with intense ripples.
His plan was designed based on everything that existed in this world. There could be variables and accidents, but everything should remain within the scope of His plan.
But this "Nairn," this existence calling himself "thousand faces," was completely beyond His understanding.
"The face of a thousand changes, the mask that governs all living beings;"
"The scribe of fate and the graffiti artist on its reverse side;"
"The final interpretation and definition of the world."
This isn't scientific!
...Well, this is very mystical.
But this doesn't follow mystical logic either!
Dammit! Who could possibly understand this!
He was already the top-tier King of Angels who had no rival while the true gods were absent.
He was already standing at the peak of this planet's pyramid, looking down upon all living beings and manipulating fate.
He was already invincible in the world!
Yet such a [Great Accident] that even He couldn't see through could still emerge!
Forcibly erase it?
The risk is too great.
The other party possessed something suspected to be a "Sefirah"; acting rashly could very likely trigger unpredictable chain reactions.
Tingen City, and even the entire Northern Continent, might turn into chaotic ruins because of it.
Then His plan would be completely ruined.
Sit back and do nothing?
Even more impossible.
This "variable's" style of action was full of chaos and unpredictability.
He toyed with Klein, intervened with Leonard, changed Old Neil's fate, and even intended to establish the "Tingen Citizen Mutual Aid Foundation."
But the less He understood, the more He had to maintain observation.
Since an actor from outside the script had appeared, He might as well beat him at his own game and see what kind of play he intended to perform.
This was itself a type of "arrangement." But to be safe, He had to make thorough preparations.
His gaze moved past Tingen, toward Backlund, and even further away.
The original plan needed minor adjustments; some chess pieces that originally didn't need to be used now had to be placed ahead of schedule.
"Since there is an uncontrollable variable..."
Adam's plan was straightened out once again.
"...Then for the script, I shall add an equally powerful 'insurance'."
He had no choice but to set up backup measures first, to avoid being without a Plan B as a reserve preparation.
