The shoreline curved inward, forming a inlet which extends miles, Alex crouched on a stone overhang, looking down at the half-submerged cave mouth below. The beach was littered with hollow, dead Corsola branches and they weren't naturally shed like the ones at the Coral Tower as these were cracked open, the marrow sucked clean.
" Holy shit it's a Mareanie " Alex observed as he watched a violent coloured pokemon scurrying off, "And where there's a graveyard this big, there's definitely a Toxapex, especially for corsola."
He looked at his team who were now observing the chaos around them.
Skorupi sat closest, the bug pokemon was no longer the size of a dinner plate but was nearly three feet long, his exoskeleton a dark, bruised purple, and his pincers looked like bolt cutters and he was snapping them quietly, eager for a target 🎯.
"We don't fight them in the water," Alex whispered. "Toxapex has high defense, especially high special defense and in the water, it has a home field advantage and a perfect escape route so we draw them onto the land."
Alex pulled two empty glass bottles from his pack.
"Nidoking, Skorupi..... Fill these."
He didn't need to explain any further as Skorupi injected a heavy, concentrated dose of his neurotoxin into the first bottle and Nidoking, looking slightly bored, spat a thick glob of highly acidic sludge into the second.
Alex took the bottles, mixed in a handful of crushed sulfur from the volcano run he had collected before and wrapped them in a damp rag. He tossed the crude chemical bomb onto the narrow strip of dry beach just outside the cave entrance.
A thick, violent purple fog immediately began to hiss outward, clinging heavily to the sand. It smelled like burning tires and bleach.
"Well the mix of two highly concentrated poison will certainly attract them in.," Alex said.
He looked at the pink puffball floating near his knee.
"Clefairy.... Go stand in the fog."
Clefairy stopped humming as it looked at the lethal cloud of mustard gas equivalent, then looked at Alex and gave a thumbs-up.
It waddled down the embankment and walked right into the center of the toxic cloud and thanks to Magic Guard, the corrosive gas simply slid off its skin. Clefairy sat down in the purple haze, completely unbothered, and began digging in the sand with a stick.
"Feebas," Alex unclipped the ball. " Princess it's Your turn."
He dropped the fish into the water.
"Go in..... As usual piss them off and swim back fast."
Feebas shot him a look of profound annoyance as she dove, disappearing into the dark mouth of the sea cave.
Ten seconds passed...Twenty.
A muffled WUB-WUB echoed from deep inside the cavern.... Water Pulse.
Followed immediately by a chorus of angry, clicking screeches as Feebas shot out of the cave entrance like a torpedo, riding the current. She didn't look back as she beached herself on a rock, panting heavily and right behind her, the water boiled as a dozen Mareanie came out of the water, their toxic spikes bristling. Behind them rose a massive, dome-like structure of blue and pink spikes.... A Toxapex which was the size of a small car, its inner face glaring with malice.
They hit the beach, intending to chase the fish but instead, they were attracted by the gas cloud and started running towards it.
The Toxapex was wobbling it's way into the the gas zone but suddenly stopped.
Sitting directly in its path, in the middle of a lethal poisonous atmosphere, was a pink fairy making a sandcastle.Toxapex blinked its yellow eyes as it looked confused and then chattered its spikes aggressively.
Clefairy looked up as it stopped patting the wet sand, reached into its fur, and pulled out a slightly dirty clam shell and held the shell up to the towering, venomous pokemon.
Gift? Clefairy hummed cheerfully.
Toxapex didn't want a gift but wanted blood and was pissed being made fun off as It raised its massive frontal spikes, glowing with toxic purple light, and fired a Spike Cannon directly at the fairy type.
"Aron.... go ," Alex barked.
A streak of silver shot down from the overhang as the steel type landed directly in front of Clefairy just as the spikes hit.
PING...PING...CLANG.....
The poisonous spikes shattered against Aron's steel plating but the little blue-eyed puppy didn't even flinch. It let out a metallic growl, scraping its claws against the rocks.
Toxapex realized its attacks were useless so it tried to back up, retreating toward the safety of the water.
"Duskull...Now."
From the shadows of the cliff, a black line shot across the beach. Duskull had thinned its shadow to the width of a rope and the darkness wrapped tightly around the Toxapex's own shadow, nailing it to the sand.
Toxapex pulled, but it was anchored and couldn't move its heavy body backward and was trapped on land.
"Finish it ," Alex said coldly.
Nidoking didn't wait as he stepped to the edge of the cliff, the air around him snapped with static as a blinding yellow spear of Thunderbolt tore through the air.
It struck the Toxapex dead center and because the pokemon was soaking wet from the ocean, the electricity amplified wrapping around the spiked dome in a cage of high-voltage.
Toxapex let out a horrific, bubbling shriek before collapsing, its dome smoking and as they saw their leader fall , the surviving Mareanie tried to scatter.
Thwip... Thwip....Thwip.
Skorupi didn't miss as 3 glowing white needles, fired with mathematical precision from the high ground, pinned the fleeing Mareanie through their body.
Alex slid down the slope and observed.
"Clear," he called out.
Aron sniffed one of the shattered poison spikes, found it lacking in iron, and spat it out and Clefairy was still sitting behind Aron, carefully placing the clam shell on top of its finished sandcastle.
Alex walked past them, ignoring the fallen pokemon as he stepped into the shallow water of the cave entrance.
The walls were lined with long, unchewed Corsola branches, hoarded by the pokemon and sitting in the center of the nest, resting on a bed of kelp, was a massive, perfectly spherical Black Pearl.
Alex picked it up, it was heavy, smooth, and radiated a faint, dark energy.
"Pokemon nests should be a treasure trove, it seems that we need to look more into it." Alex murmured, tossing it into his bag along with the branches.
He walked back out to the beach to collect his team and he couldn't help but feel good seeing his team doing a perfect teamwork.
He opened his mouth to call Nidoking.
CRACK....
The sound wasn't any natural thunder as it sounded like a massive whip snapping against the sky itself.
Alex looked up.
The dark clouds of the Northern Reefs were suddenly spiraling, pulled into a tight, unnatural vortex directly overhead as the midday light vanished, replaced by darkness.
The air pressure plummeted so fast Alex's ears popped and hair on his arms stood straight up.
"Get back everyone!" Alex yelled, grabbing Clefairy by the scruff of its neck and recalling Aron in a flash of red light.
KRA-KOOM.....
A bolt of lightning struck the Corals out in the deep water but the lightning wasn't white or blue, it was a sickly, violent yellow.
The water around the Corals boiled instantly, sending a shockwave of steam rolling toward the shore and from the center of the boiling ocean, a high-pitched, manic laughter echoed over the sound of the storm and it sounded like a child playing with a live wire.
Alex pulled his knife, stepping behind Nidoking's massive bulk.
"Whatever that is," Alex muttered, his eyes locked on the churning water. "It isn't a Magikarp."
