It was already the next morning when Shawn slowly woke up.
A series of low growls belonging to the Walkers startled Shawn from his sweet dream.
The now cold bathwater instantly brought Shawn back to his senses and sobriety.
Shaking his head, Shawn got up from the bathtub.
Dressed and looking out the window, he saw several Walkers swaying leisurely at the spot where he had parked his car yesterday.
From a distance, it almost looked like they were doormen specially assigned to guard Shawn's car.
Shawn took out his Stone Hammer from his backpack, dragged it on the ground, and walked towards the several Walkers.
Clang-clang--!
Hearing the Stone Hammer scraping against the ground, the seemingly drowsy Walkers suddenly perked up.
The moment they raised their heads, their entire faces instantly contorted!
Even several teeth flew out of their mouths due to the force.
"What are you looking at...? Haven't you seen someone tip like this before?"
Shawn looked at the Walker whose head had been smashed crooked by him and couldn't help but tease it.
Three Walkers, yet they were no match for Shawn.
Within two rounds, they were already lying on the ground, their heads smashed to pieces.
Looking at the three Walkers, whose deaths were almost identical, Shawn stroked his chin.
"Eh~"
"From now on, will smashing heads become my personal trademark?"
"Once survivors see Walkers with smashed heads on the road, will they all know I've arrived?"
Shaking his head, Shawn got into the car and continued towards the easternmost part of the small town.
"However, I estimate I can explore the entire small town today."
Shawn stretched his neck and looked into the distance; from his position, he could already see the edge of the town and the highway in the distance.
Turning the steering wheel, Shawn passed by a cinema, the town hall, and a school, but he didn't stop at any of them.
In short, the risk was too great.
These buildings were often crowded places, but the resources inside were very limited; the income did not justify the effort, so there was no need to take the risk.
Shawn didn't stop his car until he reached the easternmost part of the town, near the stream.
Beside Shawn's car, a large red sign read 'firehouse'.
"I'm not short on food and water for now. A Fire Station usually has some emergency equipment, right?"
Shawn walked over, carrying his Hammer.
The rolling door at the front of the Fire Station was half-open, and a large amount of visible bloodstains spread from the entrance deep into the Fire Station.
Shawn heavily knocked on the metal rolling door a few times. The rolling door trembled and rattled, making a sound that could be heard clearly within at least 30 meters.
Shawn stood sideways at the entrance of the Fire Station's rolling door, not rushing in. He held up his Stone Hammer, just waiting for the Walkers to come at the sound.
"Hmm?"
"Strange."
But after a long while, let alone the shadow of a Walker, Shawn didn't even hear a single low growl.
Looking inside along the metal rolling door, after confirming there were no traces of Walkers or other humans, Shawn propped his hands on the rolling door and lifted it with force!
The rolling door immediately rose to about the same height as Shawn.
Shawn walked in, carrying his Stone Hammer. His gaze swept around, and everywhere he looked was a mess.
Bloodstains spreading everywhere, corpses lying on the ground, having lost all ability to move, and equipment scattered all over the floor.
Shawn looked down; a gurgling stream of water was spreading under his feet, slowly overflowing from behind a door in the distance.
Pushing open the door, what greeted his eyes was a gray and white figure that was all too familiar.
Hearing the low, hoarse growl, Shawn finally felt relieved.
"Now this is more like it."
Shawn walked forward and saw that the Walker in front of him was trapped on the Fire Station's up-and-down pole, bound by transparent, strong silk netting, unable to move.
"Is this the feeling of free flying?"
Shawn looked at the Walker's clumsy struggles and felt a strange sense of humor.
"But I'm grateful for your watch. Rest in peace."
Whoosh--
Shawn swung his Stone Hammer, smashing the Walker's head.
Experience +300
Pushing the Walker's corpse aside, Shawn climbed up to the second floor along the pole.
"No signs of living people having lived here."
Shawn raised his hand and wiped a layer of dust off the metal table in the center.
This should be the Fire Station's common room. On a metal counter nearby, there were many canned foods and household appliances.
He put all the cans into his system backpack, opened the cabinet under the metal counter, and couldn't help but smile when he saw what was inside.
"Coca-Cola. I approve of these firefighters' taste."
There were 4 cases of 1L Coca-Cola, with 12 bottles in each case, all sugary.
Behind the cola, there were also two dusty boxes of compressed biscuits, which looked like they belonged to the Fire Station's old employees.
"That's right, with fresh food, who would want to always eat this stuff?" Shawn expressed understanding.
Then, with a wave of his hand, he very naturally put the cola and compressed biscuits into his backpack.
Having enough to eat to not starve and living well with high quality of life are two completely different things.
Just like Shawn in this town, he could enjoy the convenience of hot water and eat the crystallization of human industry.
But Daryl and his group could only gnaw on raw meat every day and drink some bran.
Thinking of Coca-Cola, Shawn couldn't help but laugh aloud: "What a harvest!"
Shawn pushed open the side door of the common room and began to clear out the supplies there.
These were basically some special firefighting equipment, which made Shawn's eyes light up even more.
"Fire-retardant heat-protective suit? Pack it up!"
"Firefighting chemical protective suit? Pack it up!"
"Heavy-duty tank armor? Pack it up!"
Shawn said nothing, simply packing everything, and also took the last three fire axes from the Fire Station.
After clearing the supplies on the second floor, Shawn descended to the first floor via another staircase.
This was clearly the other compartment of the Fire Station where the rolling door had not been opened.
As Shawn walked down the stairs, he slightly widened his eyes at the big guy that appeared before him, a glint of surprise in his eyes.
Rubbing his hands, Shawn gently placed them on this almost brand-new Fire Truck.
The red paint sprayed on it even felt as if it hadn't dried yet; at first glance, this vehicle didn't look like something one would find in the apocalypse.
Through the side door's window, Shawn glanced at the 7-seater car he had brought, then looked at the red overlord beside him, and then he looked at the dilapidated 7-seater car again...
Bang--
Shawn slammed the car door shut. The Stone Hammer was placed in the passenger seat. He placed his hands on the Fire Truck's steering wheel and slowly exhaled.
The heavy grip, the complete road monitoring which could monitor the 4 blind spots outside the Fire Truck, the car radio, the satellite positioning system...
Road monitoring and satellite positioning
"This is the feeling."
Shawn closed his eyes; the tranquility inside the Fire Truck made him somewhat intoxicated.
The sense of security derived from a vehicle often surpassed that of a fixed property.
Inserting the key he had taken from the wall nearby, and pushing open the rolling door, Shawn slowly drove the 'red overlord' out of the Fire Station.
Passing the 7-seater car, the Fire Truck slowly reversed a few meters, and Shawn jumped down from the Fire Truck.
He threw all the supplies piled in the back seats into the huge partitioned water tank at the back of the Fire Truck, then abandoned the lonely 7-seater car, turned the steering wheel, and prepared to return to the Farm along the way he came.
But the next second after Shawn put the car in gear, a crisp, loud gunshot drilled in through the car window, and Shawn slammed on the brakes.
Screech--!
He looked back towards the highway in the distance, and as if he had thought of something, he suddenly spun the steering wheel sharply, and the entire Fire Truck immediately turned around, speeding off towards the east.
