Chapter 46 - Chapter 46 The First Night of the Convoy

After finishing the treasure room on the second floor, Shawn didn't plan to continue exploring the remaining old rooms.

"I guess the time is about right."

Shawn found a tattered cloth bag in the room and took out some food and medical supplies from his backpack.

When passing the corner of the stairs, he took out all the goods from the vending machine and packed them.

Carrying the heavy bag, when Shawn walked out of the motel, Daryl was already waiting in the yard for a long time.

"Aren't you afraid these two floors will collapse?"

He looked at Shawn with interest, a sable fur hanging around his neck, holding an antique horse lamp, several packs of cigarettes, half a bottle of high-proof liquor, and two complete sets of clothes.

"Don't think of me as so barbaric; I've always been a civilized person, just too... fond of reasoning."

Shawn gave him the middle finger, shaking it from side to side.

"Perhaps if you told me this shitty apocalypse was actually a reality show, it might be more convincing."

Daryl didn't believe Shawn at all, glanced at Shawn a few times, then turned and walked towards the convoy.

When the two returned to the convoy, they had also rested enough and were gathered in front of Rick and Shane.

"Rick was just about to look for you."

Lori led Carl over, openly showing her goodwill towards Shawn.

"Oh, Lori finally understood?"

Shawn was slightly surprised by the change in Lori's attitude, but he still nodded to her without changing his expression.

He took a bar of chocolate from his pocket and handed it to Carl, then threw the rest to Merle.

"I found some painkillers and other medical supplies, besides that, everything else is high-calorie food, you can distribute it as you see fit."

"Is everyone here?"

Walking into the middle of the crowd, Shawn finally had time to pay attention to the other members.

After receiving everyone's response, Shawn clapped his hands.

"Alright, time is almost up, we'll rest from this afternoon until dark, so each car arrange your rotating driving roster, try not to overlap."

"When it gets dark, Daryl and Merle will go to the back of the convoy and just follow along."

"Outside is not like the Farm, everything must be done carefully."

Shawn repeatedly urged.

Then, in the afternoon, they set off, with Shawn switching from the main driver to the co-driver, and Rick naturally driving.

Their car was different from the other small cars; besides Shawn and Rick, the remaining Carol, Lori, and the two little ones were not qualified to drive.

So Rick drove in the afternoon, while Shawn took over the handheld radio, contacting other vehicles every hour to ensure nothing happened.

It wasn't until the sky gradually darkened that the excitement of their first day of travel slowly subsided.

It was dark all around, pitch black.

Especially having arrived in an unfamiliar environment, many members looked out the car windows, subtly uneasy.

It seemed that Walkers could be found anywhere outside, and a slight carelessness could lead to them rushing out of the darkness to bite, causing them huge losses.

"This is Shawn, respond if you hear me, over... static..."

Shawn gripped the radio, and his voice immediately transmitted into the other cars.

About 5 seconds later, the first response came.

"Shane received, over."

"Glenn received, over."

"T-Dog received, over."

"Andrea received, over."

"We also received... over..."

The last deep voice naturally belonged to Daryl.

Shawn initially gave the handheld radio to Daryl because he didn't want Merle's raspy voice to pollute the team channel.

"OK." Shawn responded one last time and then activated the 'red overlord's' road vision system.

The screen flashed.

Centered on the 'red overlord', the views from the four corners of the car immediately appeared, displayed with a green filter, almost completely covering all blind spots outside.

Shawn leaned in and examined it carefully, and after finding no abnormalities, he notified everyone to get out of the car.

The car doors opened, and the previously dark forest road was gradually illuminated by the light sources in everyone's hands.

As the light sources began to converge, they gradually overlapped into a large beam, illuminating a large area nearby.

"It's best not to make fires at night. There's plenty of instant food. Don't exceed 1 hour for mealtime and free activity. All other times, try to stay in the car and don't run around."

"You know my rules."

Shawn repeated it again, but seeing everyone's subtle fear and unease in the dark, unfamiliar surroundings, he couldn't help but add, "It will be tough these few days, but once we reach the Prison, life will be much better."

It wasn't until they heard the last sentence that many people's expressions improved.

Each took their children and turned back to their cars, taking out some canned food and water from inside, and sat down to eat not far from Shawn.

Being closer to Shawn made them feel safer.

Shawn stood on the step of the fire truck door, holding a box of cereal in his hand, eating quietly.

"Are you tired?"

Following the sudden voice, Shawn saw Rick, followed by Daryl, Shane, and others.

"Just thinking about things." Shawn shook his head.

Then he saw Rick spread a map on the ground in front of him, illuminating it with a flashlight.

The main combat forces of the Camp gathered around the map.

"This is a regional map we found when we refueled at the motel today at noon."

Rick looked directly at everyone, finally at Shawn, and pointed a few times on the spread-out map.

"From this map, it seems that this map is not as large as the Atlanta map, but it is more detailed."

"The motel we arrived at noon is here, about 90 kilometers from where we started."

"And in the afternoon, we drove at least another 120 kilometers or more, so we should be here now."

Rick pointed to the lower left of the map, speaking in as low a voice as possible.

"How many kilometers do you think... we are from the Prison?"

Rick's last sentence was, of course, directed at Shawn.

So when Rick said this, everyone subconsciously looked at Shawn, waiting for him to speak.

Putting the cereal box in the car, Shawn pushed himself up and jumped out of the car, taking a general look at the map.

"So it's a 'political district map', with some transportation planning on it." Shawn pondered.

The so-called 'political districts' are actually the continental divisions of the United States, and the map at hand is a further detailed map of 'Georgia', where everyone is currently located.

That's why this map looked more detailed than the previous Atlanta map.

"First, all urban areas and nearby densely populated areas can be excluded..."

Staying away from densely populated areas was the primary site selection standard for the Prison.

Just this one condition directly eliminated one-third of the area on this map.
