"We're both terrified," he said.
"Yeah. We are." I pressed closer to him. "I'm scared every single day that I'll fail you. That I won't be strong enough or smart enough or fast enough to keep us both alive, that the seal won't be enough, that I'll make the wrong choice, that I'll lose you to your brother or the Covenant or some random attack we don't see coming."
"You won't lose me."
"You can't promise that either." I touched his chest, where the poison had hit. "You almost died tonight, the binding almost broke, and all I could think was that I'd rather die than live without you, which is insane because a month ago I didn't even know you existed."
"And now?"
"Now you're everything." I said it simply. "Now I can't imagine a future that doesn't have you in it, now the thought of the binding breaking doesn't scare me because it would kill me, it scares me because it would mean losing you. The only person I love.."
His hand tightened in my hair. "Say that again."
