Chapter 2 - Ch-2: Error

[100% Drop Rate (SSS-Rank Passive Skill): Whether it is receiving drops from monster kills, opening chests, or anything related to drop rates, you will always obtain 100% of the drops.]

"Holy—" Victor's eyelids widened in disbelief, and then a surge of excitement rushed through his body as he read the description.

Loot from monsters or chests was the foundation of strength in this world. Whether equipment, resources, or even skills, everything was obtained through drops. Now that he could get 100% every time, he was ecstatic. Mind you, more than 50% of the time there were no drops from monsters, and rarer loot had even lower probabilities.

[You have received the Inventory Skill]

[You have received the Origin Bloodline]

"Oh, there is more?" Victor raised an eyebrow when he saw this, especially after noticing that he had obtained some kind of bloodline, and opened it to see its description.

He did not bother checking the Inventory Skill, as its name said everything.

[Origin Bloodline (SSS-Rank Bloodline): You can directly gain a bloodline-related skill you choose, which then turns into a Warlock Bloodline. (Note: You can obtain one, and rarely two, bloodlines at each tier.)]

"This… is no less of a cheat compared to the drop rate." Victor's pupils narrowed as he read the description of the bloodline.

Victor was already ecstatic about gaining a bloodline and becoming a Warlock. Compared to normal non-bloodline users, Warlocks were far stronger, as they possessed godly skills that granted abilities such as controlling fire or lightning, or even extra stats compared to ordinary people.

However, the bloodline he had obtained was too broken—an SSS Rank, the highest rank.

Just as Victor was thinking, another notification appeared in front of him.

[You have killed an 'Electric Wolf Cub' and gained 3 experience points]

[100% Drop Rate has been triggered]

[A Silver Coin has been dropped]

[Static Dagger has been dropped]

[A Skill Book has been dropped]

[Free Stat Points have been dropped]

[All items have been placed in the Inventory]

"What, stat points?" Victor exclaimed as he hurriedly opened his stats.

"So it's true." Victor was ecstatic when he saw that his 100% drop rate even made stat points drop from monsters. Then he opened his inventory, and a glowing book appeared in his hands.

[Electric Bullet]

[Rank: G]

[Type: Active Skill]

[Description: Fires a thumb-sized bullet made of weak lightning.]

[Ding Dong]

[Origin Bloodline is reacting]

[Do you wish to use Electric Bullet to unlock a related Bloodline? Yes / No]

Victor narrowed his eyes and, without hesitation, picked yes.

[Ding Dong]

[Origin Bloodline has unlocked Lightning Warlock Bloodline]

[Lightning Warlock Bloodline is going through mutation]

[Origin Bloodline has unlocked an SS-Rank Bloodline: Purgatory Lightning]

[Electric Bullet has been upgraded to Purgatory Lightning Bullet]

Victor hurriedly opened his skill tab and bloodline list.

--------------------

Bloodline:

Origin Bloodline (SSS Rank)

Purgatory Bloodline (SS Rank): A bloodline unique to you, which is at least twice as strong as a normal Lightning Warlock Bloodline, and due to its power, the appearance of the lightning has turned pitch black.

--------------------------

Skills:

Purgatory Lightning Bullet

- Rank: F

- Level 1 ( 0/200)

Damage: 15

- Mana used: 5

- Requirements: Mana 5, Intelligence 1

--------------------------

"Not bad," Victor mumbled and nodded in satisfaction when he read the description, feeling surprised when he saw the rank upgraded from the lowest G to F.

Zii.

At Victor's will, a small, thumb-sized black bullet crackling with black lightning appeared at his fingertips.

"I should be careful and not reveal that I am a Warlock until I escape from here," Victor mumbled. Even though he wanted to test it, he restrained himself, knowing that if the Black Church got wind of his powers, they might send him to their headquarters to brainwash him or outright kill him.

Click.

Victor took a deep breath as the iron door opened again and stepped outside.

Stepping outside, Victor saw the other players also emerging from their cages. Many of the doors were wide open, and his eyes twitched when he saw a few corpses on the ground.

"This game is so realistic."

"I don't understand. Why was the fight so painful? I remember setting the pain settings to zero. I shouldn't feel anything."

"Yeah, why did it feel like I would die in real life if I died here?"

Many of the players who had been bubbling with excitement earlier now wore expressions of displeasure, while some looked fearful and grim

.

[Earth Server Announcement]

[The Akashic Records have temporarily suspended the logout function]

[The logout function will be available again when a player has reached Level 20

Listening to the announcements, all the players who had been showing displeasure froze for a moment. Then there was a brief silence before many of their faces went pale and they swallowed their saliva.

"Hah, this must be a joke," someone said with a nervous laugh.

"No, I can't really log out," cried a female in despair.

Many of those who heard hurriedly checked the options and discovered that they could no longer log out.

"Sob, sob, no, what's happening? Why can't I log out?"

"Damn, what kind of shitty developers are these? I'll sue them."

Many of them who were weak-hearted started sobbing, while most of the others wore grim expressions.

[You cannot log out at the moment]

Victor saw the familiar message and sighed. "Just like last time."

The situation was similar to the past, when players could not log out, and once the first player reached Level 20, not only could they log out, but many people back on Earth also began to awaken mana and unique powers, and even items could be brought out from the game.

Victor opened the in-game social media, and sure enough, pandemonium had broken out. He clicked open a live video from a news channel.

"We have just received news from the authorities that the game Evolution Online has caused a huge uproar. What seemed to be the first VRMMORPG and a breakthrough in technology has transformed into the largest weapon of mass destruction," a blonde news reporter said with a grave face.

"From what we have learned, the players inside the game are unable to log out, and the most shocking and dreadful part is that players who have died in the game have somehow also died in real life," the host said. Victor noticed that the other players with him had turned paper-white, and many of them were crying openly.

Victor then looked at the comment section, which was filled with panic.

Ilovegaming6: Damn, what the hell? I'm still in the game. What should I do?

Gamernoobie: No wonder the pain I felt seemed so real. I was really close to dying.

Gamerqueen7: Top players, please quickly reach Level 20 so we can get out of this hell.

RationalGamer45: Guys, we should team up and help each other. This is the only way we can survive.

NoobMaster69: Heh, all trash. I don't need anyone. I alone can reach Level 20 the fastest, you mongrels.

ProfessionalConspiracyTheorist85: I think this game was made by the government to reduce the population.

Step. Step.

Victor closed the in-game news as he watched dozens of Black Church grunts appearing.

"This batch is absolutely pathetic. Out of 1,000, only these 252 survived. The last batch had more than 500 survivors. Absolute trash," a grunt said in disdain.

The players did not dare show any displeasure, and many of them lowered their heads in fear.

Many of them had already overcome their fear and despair, as they realized there was no point in resisting if they wanted to survive, and started to treat the game like real life.

"Congratulations. You have passed the first round of elimination," said a handsome man, and Victor's eyes narrowed as he looked at him.

[Black Church Squad Leader, Level 25]

"Now the second and final round will take place one week from now, and the top 100 with the highest levels will be sent to headquarters for training, and the rest… will be killed," the Squad Leader said in a cold voice.

Gulp.

Many of the players' expressions changed upon hearing this as they swallowed a mouthful of saliva, but did not dare say anything.

"Also, we are on an island, and you are free to go and kill monsters to level up. Any drops you get can be exchanged for points, which can be used to buy things from our store," the leader explained in a neutral voice. Then his tone turned cold, and a trace of killing intent appeared in his voice as many of the players took a step back. "But if you dare to escape the island, you will be killed on the spot."

'One week. I will escape this place earlier, and you will be dead,' Victor thought with a cold glint in his eyes as he watched the leader walk away.
