Chapter 80 - Chapter 80: The Tree of Life and the Tree of Spirit

Since that thought-provoking lecture, Salazar Slytherin hadn't paid much attention to Rey.

Rey was a Ravenclaw student and someone Godric Gryffindor valued. Given the severe rift between Salazar and his three friends, it was already a miracle that he had meticulously taught Rey how to cultivate as a Dark Wizard.

To Salazar, Rey was like a leaf adrift in the river. He had taught what needed to be taught; how far Rey floated was up to his own destiny. Why would he expend more energy on personal tutoring? After all, Terence Barrow was his true Slytherin disciple.

Salazar had been generous enough, so Rey naturally had no complaints.

As the saying goes, the master leads you to the door, but cultivation depends on the individual.

Even without further guidance from Salazar, Rey felt he could go far on this path—perhaps even further than the end point Salazar had described.

Salazar had said that becoming a pure Dark Wizard was equivalent to opening the door to becoming a Natural Wizard.

Rey didn't entirely agree with this statement.

Although human wizards possessed inherent Light attributes, their Light was not on the same level as the pure Dark power of Hell. The Light in mortals was merely a residual effect of Heaven's touch.

To become the Natural Wizard Salazar described, Rey believed he needed to find a way to acquire the pure Light of Heaven.

Only the Light of Heaven could counterbalance the Darkness of Hell. Mortal power alone could only mediate between the two, allowing them to generate and restrain each other in a natural cycle.

If the inherent Light power of human wizards could suppress the Darkness of Hell, then why did every wizard in history who practiced the Dark Arts become corrupted and evil?

If humanity's innate Light couldn't even suppress the corrupted, "evil" magic that merely approached true Darkness, how could it possibly harmonize with genuine Dark power?

Salazar Slytherin was a genius of the wizarding world; there was no doubt about that.

Rey wasn't a genius, but he had the profound depths of Chinese culture as his foundation and was steeped in modern culture from a thousand years in the future.

What is modern culture?

It's an era of countless forums with varied theoretical analyses, shared resources, shared theories, and shared conclusions.

Having been washed in the culture of such an era, and with Salazar opening the door to broaden his horizons, if Rey still couldn't complete the theory of Natural Wizard cultivation, he didn't deserve to be a time traveler.

While cultivating Dark Magic to become a true Dark Wizard, he couldn't abandon White Magic. The two had to complement each other, advancing side by side. That was the best prescription.

Of course, if he could obtain pure Light power to thoroughly suppress the Darkness, achieving true balance at the final moment, that would be perfect.

---

Cultivating as a Dark Wizard was like running an ultra-marathon; there was no need to fight over who started first.

That was what Rey thought, but Terence Barrow didn't see it that way. After experiencing a series of events, the fifteen-year-old boy finally matured a little.

Terence believed the fundamental reason Helena ignored him was that Rey was stronger than him.

Whether in dueling, his reactions during their journey, or protecting Helena at the critical moment, Rey had proven superior.

Women like strong men who can protect them. Especially clever women. To Terence, the nobleman, this logic seemed irrefutable.

Terence was full of motivation. Suddenly mature, he stopped hovering around Helena, which was a great relief to Salazar.

Terence's change convinced Salazar that teaching Rey the method to become a Dark Wizard was a good choice.

First, it fulfilled his promise to Godric Gryffindor. Second, it established a rival for Terence.

Whether this rival competed with Terence for Helena or simply in magical progress didn't matter. As long as the rival existed, Terence would persist in his efforts.

Rey had been marked as a rival by Terence, yet he remained completely oblivious to it.

Currently, Rey attended classes with all the other students, receiving personal instruction from Godric, Rowena, and Helga. Simultaneously, he investigated various materials regarding Light and Dark power.

He knew too little, and his understanding was shallow. Salazar Slytherin's cultivation method alone was insufficient.

Among all the professors, there was a literal living antique: Rolanda Hooch.

She had lived for who knows how many years. If he asked her, he was sure to get more information.

However, ever since Madam Hooch fully mastered human language, her gaze towards Rey had always been filled with disdain and contempt.

Of course, she looked at him like that even before she mastered the language.

When Rey asked her about pure Light and Dark magic, she simply retorted, "A thieving wretch daring to peek at heights even the Dragon Race hasn't reached? You truly are tired of living."

And that was it. Madam Hooch turned and left without hesitation, reflecting her genuine dislike for Rey.

Rey shook his head and headed for the library.

In his view, the path through Madam Hooch was blocked until he gained her genuine acknowledgment. So, he could only return to searching for information in the library.

---

To become a top student, the library is an essential location.

Rey never intended to be a top student, but recently, he had been spending all his time here searching for information.

Although the library didn't have as many books as it would in the future, the collection was still substantial.

The Discipline of Wizards, Defining Magical Effects, White Magic and Dark Magic—various titles lined the shelves.

Rey had already read these. What he needed were books specifically about the power of Light.

"Light, Light... Maybe the Church has more books on this subject?"

Finding no relevant books, this thought suddenly popped into Rey's mind.

But the Church in this magical world seemed to be a mysterious existence. Going to the Church to look for records of Light power felt inappropriate and risky.

Just as Rey was about to give up, he glanced at the bottom right of a bookshelf and noticed a book he hadn't seen before: Legends and Rumors of the Wizarding World.

This book must have been returned recently. Rey searched the shelves every day and hadn't seen it before.

Judging by the title, it likely recorded absurd legends, mostly fabricated by humans. Such books usually appealed to young wizards just starting to learn magic.

Adopting a "better safe than sorry" attitude, Rey picked up the book and began to flip through it.

Section One: The Past of the First-Age People.

Legend has it that King Ixion secretly loved the Queen of Gods, Hera. Constrained by reason, he hid his feelings. One day, the King got drunk, and coincidentally, the Goddess came to him. In his drunken state, the King confessed his love.

The Goddess left in anger and told the King of Gods, Zeus. To punish the mortal King, Zeus fashioned a cloud into the likeness of Hera to consort with him. Their descendants became the Centaurs, half-man and half-horse.

Centaurs possess strong bodies and formidable combat abilities, and they do not get sick. Their lifespan is fixed at sixty years. When their time is up, they die. Since sixty years make one cycle or "age," Centaurs are also known as the First-Age People.

After reading the first story, Rey paused for a long time.

Legends and Rumors of the Wizarding World was indeed full of legends, chaotic and unorganized, reading exactly like a fairy tale book for young wizards. Rey didn't know the exact nature of Centaurs in reality, but surely it wasn't this absurd.

Section Two: The Origin of the Sea.

This section was even more ridiculous. It claimed the sea was the blood of a benevolent god. Seeing the earth pitted and uneven, this god shed his blood to fill the hollows, forming the oceans.

There was no limit to the absurdity. Reading this, Rey was rendered speechless.

Thud!

With a soft sound, Rey closed the book, feeling like he couldn't go on.

After a while, he resignedly opened the book again to the third story. Having no other books to read, he couldn't let any potential lead slip by.

Section Three: The Fruit of Life in the Kingdom of God.

Legend has it that within every human's spiritual world, there is a door leading to the Kingdom of God...

In the Kingdom of God, there are two trees: one is the Tree of Life, and the other is the Tree of Spirit...
