"No! No! Shit!" I muttered, pacing frantically around the room.
Sweat beaded on my forehead, trickling down my neck in warm trails.
"This can't be real," I whispered, my stomach clenching into a tight knot.
Maybe I'd imagined the whole thing. Maybe Marcus was pulling some twisted joke on me. That had to be it.
I collapsed into my chair, yanked open my laptop, and typed his name into the search bar.
My article about him was still spreading like wildfire, and he was still doing interviews - only now he was declaring Oliver as his son.
"No," I breathed, my hands trembling as I scrolled through the trending headlines.
I clicked on one despite the sharp ache piercing my chest.
Marcus claimed it was impossible for Verity Blog to be accurate; he insisted he never did anything with me.
"How could this happen if we dated five years ago?" I read his words aloud. "She's bitter because I wasn't there for our son, so she's spreading lies."
