Fury and jealousy coursed through Lexie's veins as she eavesdropped on Dorian's phone conversation. She recognized that warm, tender tone he reserved only for Elena.
The mention of Bennett caught her attention, followed by the part that made her blood boil—Dorian had invited Elena somewhere. Her rage intensified. She needed to act quickly.
Smoothing her hair behind her ear, she entered the room. Dorian cleared his throat abruptly and disconnected the call.
"Hey baby," she said, forcing brightness into her voice. "How are you doing?"
"Fine," Dorian responded tersely. "Where's Quentin? He should've returned by now."
"He will," she replied, then carefully probed, "Who was on the phone?"
"Nobody," he answered, already reaching for his device again.
The blatant lie made her jaw clench, but she perched stiffly on the bed's edge, fighting to maintain composure. When she moved closer to him, Dorian suddenly sprang from the mattress.
