Hana's heart pounded in her chest. The shadows near the side gate shifted again, the movement deliberate and slow, like a predator circling.
Min-jae stood in front of her, his body tense, eyes scanning every corner. "Stay behind me," he whispered.
Hana nodded, gripping his arm. Her stomach twisted with fear and anticipation. The night felt suffocating—every sound amplified, every rustle a threat.
From the darkness, Yuri stepped forward again, phone in hand. "You shouldn't have ignored me," she said, voice calm but with an edge that made Hana's skin crawl. "I warned you. Now… you'll see what happens when you cross me."
Min-jae's jaw tightened. "Enough. Leave. Now."
Yuri laughed softly. "I think it's too late for that."
Suddenly, the figure from the side gate moved closer—a hooded person, identity hidden. Hana's breath caught.
Min-jae stepped forward, fists clenched. "Who are you? Show yourself!"
The figure hesitated, then pulled back the hood. Hana gasped.
It wasn't a stranger. It was someone from school. Someone she had thought was friendly.
"Why… why are you doing this?" Hana whispered, voice trembling.
The student's lips curled into a cold smile. "Because someone has to make sure the world knows the truth."
Hana's stomach lurched. "This isn't the truth! It's a lie! You're just spreading rumors!"
Yuri laughed softly. "Oh, Hana… lies, truths… it's all the same when people believe what they want."
Min-jae stepped closer, voice low but dangerous. "Back off. Both of you. Or I won't stop you."
The hooded figure took a step forward, then froze as Yuri gestured sharply. "Not yet. Let them stew a little longer. The fun isn't over."
Hana felt her knees weaken. Her heart was racing, her chest tight, and fear clawed at her throat. She wanted to scream, to run, but Min-jae's hand held hers steady.
"We'll get through this," he whispered. "Together. No matter what."
Hana nodded, letting the warmth of his hand anchor her.
The hooded figure and Yuri retreated into the shadows, disappearing as silently as they had come.
For a moment, Hana thought it was over. But deep in her chest, a voice whispered a warning:
This wasn't the end.
It was only the beginning.
Hana realized then that the danger wasn't just external. The chaos, the lies, and the threats could tear everything apart from the inside—testing trust, love, and courage like never before.
She squeezed Min-jae's hand tighter. "We'll face it," she said, her voice stronger than she felt.
Min-jae nodded, eyes fierce. "Together. Always."
And as the wind rustled through the trees, a distant shadow lingered, watching, waiting, patient.
Because the real game was only just starting.
