Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Leaving Dark City

Eliana was walking out of Dark City with Ralts levitating at her side. She was currently looking through her bag at the rewards the townspeople had gave her for freeing them from the two gang's reign of terror. Due to said reign of terror the town was pretty poor, but they had sent her off with some money, a flashlight, and a tent. Bo had also gave her enough portable meals that would last until the next town.

( •̀ ᴖ •́ ), Ralts was staring at Eliana with an annoyed expression, as she did this. Clearly unpleased with her behavior.

"Don't pout, now that I know you can levitate I don't have to carry you." Eliana rolled her eyes exasperated.

(,, ‸ ,, ), Ralts was so sad, he had such a cruel trainer. She wouldn't even hold him anymore!

Eliana sighed, putting her bag back on and held out her arms, "Fine come here."

( ≧ᗜ≦), Ralts eyes sparkled and he fell into his trainer's arms. Eliana gave a good natured shake of her head, "I spoil you way too much."

A happy trill was her only response. Eliana looked ahead at the road, the sun was bright, and the air was clean. For the first time in what felt like a while, things were peaceful. She had a destination in mind. She'd heard whispers in Dark City of a city of lights and spectacle, Saffron City. They said the Pokémon Gym there was run by a master of psychic types. She had a bit of a journey there but that meant all the time to catch some more Pokémon.

A small smile touched Eliana's lips, that sounded promising, more Pokémon.

Three days have passed since Eliana and Ralts had left Dark City, and they had not come upon any true trouble. Their next destination, Sunnytown, was still around a two day walk away from their current location. The phone Mew had left was very convenient, it worked even when she had no signal. A map that showed her exact location and the time it would take to reach her location, she could call anywhere (she doesn't have anyone's number but that doesn't matter), she also had a place to store extra Pokémon. All in all Mew was a very generous murder turned benefactor.

Ralts had shown to be a very princely Pokémon, he was very spoiled but he followed orders so Eliana didn't see any reason to correct it. She thought he could be funny.

Of course the two had come across wild Pokémon, Ralts had learned Disarming Voice and Teleport along the way. Disarming Voice was a nice distanced attack to deal with those pesky dark types. While Teleport was a nice escape option, Eliana had sadly found out that goin through the motions the teleportation made her quite dizzy.

Eliana had also made some discoveries about her own psychic abilities, firstly everything worked on both Pokémon and humans.

With Mind Reading she had to choose to read a mind, there was no passive overflow so she didn't struggle with being in crowds. She could skim surface thoughts or dive deeper into memories. Her Telekinesis was quite strong, she hasn't yet found a limit to what she could move, regardless of size or quantity. That could change so she was careful when using it in public.

Telepathy allowed mental communication between herself and other people. However Telepathy with Pokémon worked differently, she could understand their intent and meaning, not speech. Eliana could command her own Pokémon without speaking which was perfect for sneak attacks and throwing opponents of guard.

Eliana hasn't been able to test this one but from the sparse information Mew gave her she could apparently communicate with ghosts. Considering she hasn't come in contact with any ghosts, human or Pokémon, Eliana hasn't been able to test it properly. Teleportation was also turning out to be a nuisance. She had to completely visualize where exactly she wanted to go, what all she wanted to take with her, and have enough energy to do it all. Not to mention the giant migraine she had by the end of it. It was much more convenient to let Ralts do the teleporting.

Eliana personally thought that Mind Control was the best thing Mew had given her. Life was so much easier when you could force another creature to do something for you. For example, making an entire swarm of Beedrill flock a resting trainer was a nice way to get more supplies and make some extra cash. After all who would think to grab their bag when faced with a hoard of huge venomous bugs? She had found the bases of many groups of thugs from ordering a scout to take her to them, who'd miss a few crooks anyways. Eliana personally thought she was doing the area a favor getting rid of them.

Anyways after a day, Eliana and Ralts had finally made it out of the forest at this point and were on a path leading out to a large field.

Eliana mentally sent to Ralts, Ralts, still nestled in her arms, made a soft noise of agreement, sending back a feeling of warm contentment.

A few minutes later Eliana made her way onto a hill overlooking the wide open plains. The grass swayed in a gentle breeze, and in the distance, a herd of brown, shaggy Pokémon with large horns grazed peacefully.

Eliana asked, already scanning the minds of the nearest ones. Simple thoughts of grass, sun, and the occasional worry about a herd member grazing to close.

ᗜ˰ᗜ, Ralts looked at her with a look of disbelief. How was he supposed to know what those things are, he wasn't from this place.

Eliana answered, a hint of amusement in the mental tone.

Eliana could feel the apprehension coming off of her partner as she got closer to them.

Eliana mused, her gaze sweeping over the herd. Her eyes landed on a tiny Tauros, its horns a gleaming white instead of the usual dull gray.

She probed its mind to test what a baby's mind would be like. It was thinking the same things as the others, mainly grazing, but there was an undercurrent of youth and wonder.

Eliana looked down when Ralts questioned her intentions,

(ꐦㅍ _ㅍ), Ralts wondered why they were wasting time here then. If they weren't going to take their horns or catch one what's the point in staring.

Eliana cheekily told him.

(¬`ε ´¬), Ralts believed these ugly things weren't worth being called scenery and wanted to leave already.

Eliana teased, continuing past the herd. Some looked up to watch but seeing that the two were just walking by they went back to grazing. As Eliana and Ralts walked off she could hear a sudden rustling behind them. The thought of a Tauros: Danger! Run! flashed through her mind before a loud bellowing rang through the field.

Eliana turned around just in time to see a Tauros, much larger and more muscular than the others, pawing at the ground. Its horns were sharp and intimidating, steam literally rising from its nostrils. Its mind was a storm of pure rage, a single thought burning through it: Intruder! Threat! Eliminate!

Eliana thought calmly to Ralts, who had already leaped from her arms. The little Pokémon landed gracefully, its blue bowl-cut swaying.

The Tauros didn't give them a moment to prepare. With a ground-shaking roar, it charged. The very earth seemed to vibrate with its momentum. It was a living battering ram, a force of pure animal fury.

Eliana commanded, her thought a cool, clear dagger in her mind.

Ralts's eyes flared with a soft blue light. The psychic energy struck the charging Tauros head-on. The Tauros let out a furious huff out its nose when it realized it wasn't moving, it strained against the Confusion but the struggle was ultimately useless.

Eliana told her Pokémon, not wanting to deal with any officers right now.

Ralts's head tilted, and a different kind of energy gathered. A wave of unseen force, slammed into the Tauros' skull. The Pokémon's eyes rolled back in its head, and it collapsed onto its side with a heavy thud, a small cloud of dust rising around its still form.

Eliana praised, walking over to the fallen Pokémon.

( ˘ ³˘), Ralts was always efficient and deserved all the praise!

She knelt and placed a hand on the Tauros's thick hide. She probed its mind again. It was empty now, just the quiet, humming baseline of an unconscious mind. No lasting damage. Good.

Eliana said, scooping Ralts back into her arms.

The rest of the Tauros herd watched them go, their simple thoughts now tinged with caution. They kept their distance, their eyes on the fallen form of their protector. Eliana and Ralts walked on, leaving the scene behind them as if it were just another unremarkable event on their journey.

They walked for the rest of the day, before stopping to set up their tent, eat dinner, and settle down for the night. The sun slowly dipping toward the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple.
