Eliana woke to the sound of her phone ringing, confused because although more people had her number now, why in the world would they be calling her so early? Gabriel never woke up early, Sabrina never called at all, and Izabel only called when she needed something. So Eliana answered the call with a sleepy, "Hello?"
"Good you're awake!" A cheerful voice came through the speaker.
"Mew? Why are you calling so early?" Eliana asked in confusion, blinking the sleep out of her eyes.
"We hadn't talked in a while." Mew said, its excitement practically buzzing through the phone. "Besides I needed to tell you Happy Birthday, humans do that don't they?"
That woke Eliana up more, she slowly sat up in bed. "Happy Birthday?" she asked, her voice laced with disbelief.
"Yes Happy Birthday!" The legendary Pokémon repeated, way to casually for what it said. "It's been a year since I accidentally killed and brought you here"
"Oh…" If Eliana was being completely honest with herself, she had not been keeping track of that whatsoever. Did that really count as a birthday?
"I even got you a present." Mew sounded extremely proud of itself.
Eliana perked up at that, "A present?"
"Yes! Place your phone on the bed." Mew chirped and Eliana did as instructed.
The phone was slowly surrounded with a soft glow. Eliana watched with impatience as the phone began to shift. The glow began to fade and the phone was completely different from before.
Its color changed to be mostly white, it has a miniature version of a golden wheel attached to its back, and it is topped with two white protrusions resembling horns. It has a golden triangle centered immediately above the embedded phone. Instead of the flat bottom it was a spike tipped in gold. A large, green button is centered below the embedded smartphone. The golden tip of the bottom spike conceals a sensor that gathers geographical information
"Is this an Arc phone?" Eliana asked incredulously.
"Oh good, that's still in your memories!" Mew's voice came through the phone's speaker.
Mew then seemed to remember something, "Oh do be sure to press the green button to have your phone revert to it's normal state. It would be inconvenient if this fell into the hands of someone else."
"That's convenient." She then did as Mew said, the phone changing into its base appearance. Eliana's mouth then pulled into a heavy frown. "Wait are you sending me to Hisui?!"
"Of course not, your not needed there just yet." Mew reassured her.
"Yet…?"
"One of the conditions imposed for your transmigration was being on call when The One Above needed to use you." Mew explained to the confused teenager.
"Arceus would want help from someone who kills people?" Eliana hesitantly asked.
"Why would The One Above care about that?" Mew giggled, "You humans have such silly misconceptions about us."
"Oh okay… well was that all?" Eliana sighed quietly.
"Ah no actually, one more thing before u go." Mew stopped the teenager from hanging up.
"Yeah?" Eliana asked, wanting to know what else Mew could want.
"I need you to test out that clone's power." Mew simply said.
"What?" Eliana asked, her voice now fully alert and focused.
"The clone," Mew repeated.
"Yes I know about the clone, how am I supposed to test it if I don't even know where it is?" Eliana incredulously questioned the Pokémon.
"Your mentor is part of that team, is she not?" Mew asked confused, "You're strong so she'll have no choice but to introduce you eventually."
"Oh yeah, I guess that's true." Eliana had already figured out Sabrina was a part of Team Rocket, though she hadn't planned on doing anything with it until now. Sabrina had already introduced her to those other students, so it would only be a matter of time.
"If you want to learn more about the clone, why not do it yourself? Who knows when Sabrina is actually going to do that." Eliana pointed out to Mew.
"I'm too busy with the Tree of Life to deal with that," Mew dismissively said, "Dealing with humans is such a hassle."
"Their fun to play with!" Eliana disagreed, she thought people were quite amusing.
"Yes, they can be." Mew concurred.
"Also even if I do get in, they're not going to let a newbie get involved with a clone of you." Eliana grumbled.
"That doesn't matter." Mew pointed out, it seemed to be getting bored of the conversation. "Besides you're made from my power, from the source unlike that mockery, you'll be able to sense where it is."
Eliana sat up in her bed, legs hanging off the edge. "Fine I'll find the clone," she said, her voice an annoyed promise.
"Great, I leave you to it!" Mew cheerfully said, before hanging up. The line went dead.
Eliana stared at her now plain-looking phone, the early morning light filtering through her window and glinting off its dark screen. The room was quiet, but her mind was a maelstrom. First of all, she had a birthday now and it was today. She'd have to call Gabriel later on, there's no way he'd willingly be up so early. But there was no way Eliana would be getting back to sleep, her mind was to busy.
A mission from Mew to test its clone, maybe she'd catch it. Arceus was apparently going to call her to Husui for something, Eliana honestly couldn't wait for that. Catching Pokémon that no one else would have access to would be awesome. She could probably sell them for exorbitant prices. Well except for the psychic types, no way she'd let someone else have access to something like that. She swung her legs out of bed, the cool floor a jolt to her system. The normalcy of the action was absurd, a stark contrast to the cosmic weight of the conversation.
Her Pokémon were all awake at this point and observing her. Raichu chittered at her trainer to go back to bed. Eliana didn't want to that but she also didn't want to leave the gym just yet. So she took a seat at her desk and waited until it would be late enough to call Gabriel.
