Chapter 62 - Chapter 61: The Task Force Debrief

The debriefing with Rook was conducted an hour later in the sunroom, Rook's face appearing on a massive, high-resolution screen mounted to the wall a ghost in the machine. Abby sat next to Liam, who was visibly proud to have her by his side as an equal partner.

Rook was all business, his eyes flat and focused. "Mrs. Sterling, the Cypriot lead is solid. We have preliminary intel on the Sentinel director a former Mossad operative now specializing in private corporate counter surveillance. Expensive, highly professional, and strictly untraceable."

"He's a ghost for hire," Abby summarized, nodding. "He wouldn't have left a trail directly to Elias. We need to find the payment trigger the specific event that activated the $75k disbursement. That will tell us exactly when Elias was forced to make his move."

"My team is running the trigger analysis now," Rook confirmed. "But Mr. Sterling, the immediate physical threat remains acute. Elias knows we are hunting, and he will retaliate. He's predictable in his malice; he will go for the most symbolic vulnerability."

Rook projected a new, complex diagram onto the screen: a detailed layout of the Long Island estate and its surrounding forest.

"The estate is secure, but the vulnerability lies in the external infrastructure," Rook explained. "Elias doesn't need to break in; he needs to compromise the life support. Power, communication, or water. We've identified a key vulnerability in the solar grid backup system located in the east auxiliary shed."

Liam clenched his jaw. "The system is hardened. You're telling me he can compromise the power supply to the entire estate?"

"He could try to introduce a surge virus or a localized EMP to shut down the secondary filtration and communications systems," Rook stated calmly. "If he compromises the backup power, he forces us to move the assets you and Mrs. Sterling creating a high-risk transport opportunity."

Abby leaned forward, instantly grasping the strategic motive. "He doesn't want the money, Liam; he wants the chaos. He wants to force a visible moment of weakness. If the power goes out, the press will be swarming the estate within the hour, proving you can't even protect your own home."

"It's about undermining your authority and stability to the board," Abby concluded. "It's corporate warfare using physical threats. He wants the world to see the Sterling family structure crumbling."

Liam looked at Abby, his eyes full of admiration for her clarity and her immediate grasp of the corporate angle. "We move the generator controls to the bunker. Rook, I want a perimeter of at least five men around the auxiliary shed, with explicit authorization to use lethal force if they see any attempt to approach the power source. This is a matter of corporate defense."

"Understood, sir," Rook replied.

As the debrief concluded, Liam reached across the table and placed his hand over Abby's, a gesture that was now a functional, working acknowledgment of their parity.

"You see it, Abby. You see the corporate motive behind the malice. That's why I need you here," Liam said, his voice soft but intense. "Now, go rest. I will handle the implementation of the physical defense. We hunt Elias on your schedule tomorrow."

Abby nodded, rising from the table. She walked away, carrying the weight of their combined secret: she was now a warrior in a bunker war, fighting not just for the survival of her child, but for the fundamental right to be an equal partner in the gilded cage. She had secured her autonomy, but the cost was a constant, terrifying exposure to danger.

This is a crucial moment. A medical emergency will expose the profound limitations of Liam's control and force both him and Abby to prioritize their true vulnerability the child.

I will write the next three chapters focusing on the sudden crisis, the tension of getting medical care inside a high-security bunker, and the emotional cost of their isolated world.
