Sensing her mood shift, Wu You smoothly changed the subject.
"It's late, Chiemi. Rest early tonight. We start training tomorrow."
"Okay."
"And I left some food in your fridge," he added, voice mild. "But you ate plenty at dinner, so no midnight snacks."

Chiemi froze.
Was she offended because he'd lumped her in with the "gluttonous Umamusume" category?
No.
She froze because he'd nailed her perfectly.
She'd already noticed what he'd left in the fridge. She'd been planning to treat herself to a blissful late-night snack…

But as he did, his hand slipped and bumped the white cane leaning against the chair. It clattered to the floor.

A clean, innocent white.
One piece of clothing she hadn't managed to put away in time.

Chiemi shot out a hand, grabbed it, and shoved it behind her back.
Beside her, Wu You had already picked up his cane, as if he'd noticed nothing at all.

Why had he trembled like that just now?
"Well then, I'll head back. Good night…" Wu You said, turning toward the door.

He'd barely cracked the door open when it slammed shut again.
The next second, a dull thud sounded near his cheek. A tall, imposing body pressed in, pinning him against the door.

A wall slam.
"Hey Trainer" Chiemi's smiling voice came from above him.
"Is there something else?" Wu You answered calmly.
This wasn't even his first time being pinned like this.
"You saw it, didn't you?"
Silence.
"You. Saw. It. Right?"
This wasn't a question anymore. It was a verdict.
Chiemi leaned closer—so close that Wu You could feel her warm breath, mixed with her natural fragrance, spilling across his face.
"Chiemi, what are you talking about?" Wu You shook his head. "I'm blind."
"Really? You really didn't see anything?" Chiemi moved in even closer.
"Didn't you test me yesterday?" he replied.
"Ugh—!" The memory of last night's fiasco made Chiemi's face burn even hotter.
Wu You continued, unhurried. "By the way, I still have two pieces of clothing at your place. When are you washing them and returning them?"
"I… I know… I'll wash them and give them back some other day…" Chiemi said, finally stepping back and letting him breathe.
"In that case, I'll go. Good night."
"…Good night."
Wu You left. A moment later, the sound of a door closing came from next door.
Only then did Chiemi slide down the inside of her door, sitting on the floor as if all her strength had vanished.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Her heart beat faster and faster, as if it might burst out of her chest.
