Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Supreme Power

Rip—

The crisp sound of paper tearing, along with the crackle-pop of sparks, rang out together on the balcony.

Gojo Yoru, dressed in a gray yukata, sat on a stool and tore his diary apart page by page, tossing each sheet—covered in writing—into the small brazier in front of him.

Watching that "game guide," written entirely in pinyin and Cantonese and revised endlessly over his first six years, turn to ash before his eyes… Yoru felt as if he were watching his past self burn away too, and couldn't help feeling a little wistful.

The confidence he had now only highlighted how helpless he had once been.

Just as Namikaze Minato had been his inner demon for all these years…

This diary had symbolized Yoru's darker side.

No one but Yoru knew what insane plans were written inside it—nor the world-shaking truths that could overturn the shinobi world's understanding.

If those plans had ever been carried out, a terrifying yet tragic stitched-together monster would have been born into this world.

But now, that bleak future would never come.

What awaited him was only a power-fantasy life with cheat codes enabled.

After burning the entire guide, Yoru stood and looked up at the winter moon—almost as if he were meeting the gaze of Ōtsutsuki Kaguya sealed inside it.

"Hah…"

Suddenly, he took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled years of pent-up heaviness—like an arrow of breath threaded with pale mist.

In that moment, even Yoru could clearly feel something inside him change.

It was a refinement—an elevation of body, mind, and spirit.

And what that elevation brought wasn't just a shift in mood—it also strengthened his physical energy and spiritual energy.

From this point on, Gojo Yoru formally said goodbye to the past. He would truly merge into this world and begin a brand-new life under the name "Gojo Yoru."

After extinguishing the brazier, Yoru didn't go back to his room to rest. Instead, he returned once more to the basement carved with spell inscriptions.

He sorted and stored the remaining diaries, then continued his usual space–time training.

"Shadow Clone Technique!"

His hands flew through seals—smooth, practiced, so fast they left afterimages.

Every precise hand sign seemed to carry a flashback of Yoru practicing day after day, from childhood to now.

Pop, pop…

As his quiet shout fell, two balloon-like bursts sounded in the basement.

Two clouds of white smoke appeared out of thin air to Yoru's left and right.

When the smoke cleared, two shadow clones stood there.

But these two were… strange.

Normally, shadow clones are solid and possess independent awareness—they can act freely.

Aside from being fragile and having unequal chakra reserves, they're almost no different from the original.

That's the biggest difference between shadow clones and ordinary illusion clones.

Illusion clones are, in the end, just sleight-of-hand phantoms—lacking the "spirit" that comes with real substance.

But now, Yoru's two shadow clones seemed to have swapped roles with illusion clones.

Their eyes were vacant, expressions dull—like two puppets.

More importantly, their bodies flickered and warped from time to time, like a glitching screen.

Clearly, these shadow clones had "malfunctioned."

"Where exactly did it go wrong?"

Yoru studied the failed clones and thought, "Normal chakra has already been fused with space–time chakra. This new chakra mass successfully formed a body—so why don't these clones have independent consciousness?"

"Is space–time chakra still too domineering? Without the original controlling it, does it instantly break the balance? If that were the case, the shadow clones should automatically dispel, shouldn't they?"

"Or is it that this space–time power I can extract has a 'unique' trait—only the original body can use it, not even clones—so they crash?"

Yoru couldn't figure it out. He could only sigh helplessly. "As expected of a supreme-level power… even with this level of chakra control, I can only touch the surface."

After failing once again to create shadow clones that contained space–time chakra, Yoru went back to practicing his Phantom Body Flicker in the cramped basement.

He'd received Orochimaru's nature-transformation scroll back in March. Over the past half year, Yoru had developed a certain understanding of Yang Release—not only mastering basic medical ninjutsu, but also successfully fusing normal chakra with space–time chakra and using the Clone Technique from the Three Basic Techniques.

It was a major breakthrough.

Successfully casting the Clone Technique meant Yoru's direction was correct: space–time chakra could be used for ninjutsu—it was just extremely difficult.

Even chakra control at the level needed for the Rasengan only allowed him to touch a tiny fraction of it.

But space–time power itself was a supreme rule-level force. Even many kekkei mōra abilities of pure-blood Ōtsutsuki only brushed against its surface.

Having completed only his first evolution, with space–time chakra reserves only at genin level, Yoru being able to reach this point was already remarkable.

Even if it was only "touching the surface," he had still developed a technique that belonged to him alone: the Phantom Body Flicker.

Phantom Body Flicker could split off multiple phantom clones that coordinated attacks with the original—and those phantoms wouldn't disappear even when struck.

It was the signature move that earned Uchiha Shisui the title "Shisui of the Body Flicker."

But Shisui's Phantom Body Flicker relied primarily on Sharingan-based genjutsu, with high-level Body Flicker as support.

Without powerful hand-signless genjutsu and extraordinary Body Flicker talent, you couldn't learn Shisui's version.

Even Itachi, whose genjutsu was just as strong, couldn't learn it.

Yoru's Phantom Body Flicker, on the other hand, relied primarily on space–time chakra, with Body Flicker as support.

Phantom clones infused with space–time chakra had the property of not dispersing when struck, and combined with Yoru's silent Body Flicker, they allowed him to swap positions with his phantoms without anyone noticing.

And Yoru discovered something extremely important.

That is…

Space–time chakra is hard to sense.

When drawn outside the body through a chakra blade, you could see space–time chakra.

When injecting it into the Rasengan, you could also see the black space–time chakra.

But when it fused with normal chakra and stayed inside Yoru's body, ordinary sensing techniques couldn't detect its existence at all.

Yoru confirmed this personally using shadow clones.

Without question, this was high-dimensional concealment—the "presence" of a supreme rule-level force.

And with the shinobi world's level of understanding, before Yoru actively revealed his space–time abilities, no one would even imagine that the black chakra inside him contained space–time power.

When that day finally came, Yoru's space–time bloodline would refresh—and shatter—the entire shinobi world's understanding.
