"The festival had been at its absolute peak. Music from flutes and drums filled the air, and the smell of roasted meats drifted through the crowded plaza. Up on the elevated platform, Valex had turned his head slightly, looking over his shoulder at the two figures standing loyally behind the thrones.
"You both have been standing behind us all evening," Valex said, his deep voice calm and authoritative. "You must be hungry and tired. Please, go enjoy yourselves. Today is a celebration for everyone in the pack... that includes the two of you."
Kael reflexively straightened his posture, his hand resting near the hilt of his sword. "But Your Highness... I have..."
