I sat there on the cold bathroom floor with my back against the wall, legs all stretched out like I did not even own them anymore. Tears kept rolling down my face even though I tried to wipe them away fast. Titi crouched right in front of me, her hands on my knees, squeezing a little too hard like she thought I might float away if she let go.
"Hey, breathe with me, yeah?" she said, her voice going all soft but still bossy. "In through your nose, out through your mouth. Come on, do not make me slap you again."
I tried but it came out all shaky and wet. "I cannot. Everything is spinning. Titi, what the hell am I going to do?"
She pulled me up by my arms until I was standing, even though my knees felt like jelly. Then she grabbed a cup from the sink, filled it with water, and pushed it into my hands. "Drink this. Small sips. You look like you are about to throw up and I do not want to clean that up."
