Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 — When Sun Meets Moon

Year X770 —

Location: Rosemary Village & Forest Clearing

Age: Ren (5) | Erza (5)

---

Spring arrived quietly, as if afraid to interrupt Rosemary Village.

The snow melted into soft mud, flowers pushed stubbornly through the cold earth, and the forest breathed again.

Ren liked spring.

It made breathing easier.

He stood barefoot in the clearing, sword held loosely, eyes half-closed. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, warm against his skin.

> Feel it… not force it.

He inhaled slowly.

Sun Breathing — First Flow.

Not the same as before.

The warmth spread deeper this time, not explosive, not sharp—gentle. Like morning light through a window.

> [Great Sage: Observation — Energy circulation stabilized. Propose derivative forms based on intent rather than motion.]

Ren's brow furrowed.

> Intent…

He lifted his blade.

"Okay," he muttered. "What if Sun Breathing isn't about cutting… but guiding?"

He stepped forward.

The sword traced a shallow arc—not fast, not strong—but precise.

The air shifted.

Leaves fluttered.

Ren blinked.

"…Huh."

> [Great Sage: New Form Registered — Sun Breathing: Second Flow — Warm Horizon. Effect: Smooth momentum transfer, reduced stamina loss.]

Ren's eyes widened.

"I DID A THING!"

"Did what?"

Erza stood at the edge of the clearing, arms crossed, sword over her shoulder.

Ren spun around, nearly tripping.

"I—uh—training!"

"…You always look like that when something weird happens."

He grinned sheepishly. "Is it that obvious?"

"…Very."

She stepped closer.

"…Show me."

Ren nodded eagerly.

He demonstrated again—slow, fluid, sunlight glinting along the blade.

Erza watched carefully, eyes sharp.

"…It's different," she said. "Not like before."

Ren nodded. "It feels… kinder."

She snorted. "…That's a strange way to describe sword techniques."

"But it fits!"

She considered him, then exhaled.

"…I want to try something too."

She stepped back, feet firm, shoulders squared.

Her breathing shifted—cooler, steadier.

Ren felt it immediately.

> Moon Breathing…

Erza raised her blade.

She moved—not explosively, but with quiet sharpness. Her sword curved in a crescent arc, feet sliding smoothly.

The motion ended with the blade pointed low, balanced.

"…How was that," she asked quietly.

Ren stared, awe flickering across his face.

"…That was really cool."

She looked away. "…Good."

> [Great Sage: Analysis — Moon Breathing derivative emerging. Register?]

Ren nodded internally.

> Yes.

> [Great Sage: New Form Registered — Moon Breathing: Second Form — Crescent Stillness. Effect: Enhanced precision, minimized wasted movement.]

They stared at each other for a moment.

Then Ren grinned.

"…Wanna duel?"

Erza's eyes lit up.

"…Yes."

They took positions.

No anger.

No killing intent.

Just practice.

Ren inhaled.

Sun Breathing — Warm Horizon.

He stepped in, blade gliding forward.

Erza responded instantly—Moon Breathing flowing, her sword deflecting with a soft clang.

They moved.

Step.

Swing.

Block.

Ren's movements felt lighter. Erza's felt sharper.

Neither dominated.

Clang—clang—clang.

Ren laughed mid-swing.

"This is fun!"

"…Focus!" Erza snapped, though she was smiling too.

She pressed forward suddenly—faster than before.

Ren yelped. "HEY!"

He barely blocked, stumbling back.

> [Great Sage: Suggestion — Introduce reactive form based on defensive instinct.]

Ren's eyes widened.

> Defense… warmth that shields.

He breathed.

Sun Breathing — Third Flow.

The sword rose naturally—not to attack, but to receive.

The impact softened.

Ren slid back instead of falling.

> [Great Sage: New Form Registered — Sun Breathing: Third Flow — Golden Shelter. Effect: Damage dispersion, improved balance.]

Ren blinked.

"…I didn't fall!"

Erza paused, surprised.

"…You blocked it."

Ren beamed. "I BLOCKED IT!"

She huffed. "…Don't get cocky."

They continued—shorter now, careful.

Sweat beaded on their brows.

Finally, they stopped, panting.

"…Draw?" Ren asked hopefully.

Erza nodded. "…Draw."

They collapsed onto the grass, staring at the sky.

"…You're getting stronger," Erza said quietly.

Ren smiled, childish and bright. "You too!"

She glanced at him. "…You look happy."

"I am!"

> Because this is working.

> [Great Sage: Emotional Assessment — Positive reinforcement accelerating learning efficiency.]

After training came life.

Ren cooked—as always.

Today was grilled meat with lentils and flatbread.

Erza washed vegetables beside him.

"…You really won't let me cook," she muttered.

"Nope!" Ren chirped. "Personal cook duties!"

"…I didn't hire you."

"Too late!"

She sighed—but didn't protest when he handed her the bowl.

They ate outside.

"…Training's harder now," Erza said between bites.

Ren nodded. "…But better."

"…We're not just swinging anymore."

"Yeah!"

She hesitated. "…Do you ever get scared?"

Ren paused.

> All the time.

"…Sometimes," he admitted. Then smiled. "But less when you're there."

Her ears turned faintly red.

"…Idiot."

Later, they helped villagers again—carrying baskets, chopping wood.

Ren hummed while working, sword strapped to his back.

"…You're in a good mood," Erza observed.

"Because today was awesome!"

"…You say that every day."

"And it keeps being true!"

That evening, Ren practiced alone briefly.

Moonlight reflected off his blade.

> Sun and Moon… different, but balanced.

> Just like us.

> [Great Sage: Projection — Continued dual-style development will produce synergistic growth.]

Ren smiled softly.

He sheathed his sword and ran back toward the village, laughing when he tripped over a root.

"…Oof!"

Erza sighed, helping him up.

"…Careless."

He grinned up at her.

"But alive!"

She shook her head.

Spring deepened.

Forms evolved.

And under the same sky, Sun and Moon learned—together—to shine without eclipsing each other.
