Chapter 60 - Chapter 60 — The Loudest Place on Earth

Year X780 · Late Summer

Location: Magnolia — Fairy Tail Guild Hall

Ren (15) · Juvia (13)

---

The noise hit first.

Not sound—impact.

Juvia froze three steps inside the guild hall as a wave of voices, laughter, shouting, crashing furniture, and inexplicable explosions slammed into her senses all at once.

"…So loud," she whispered.

A chair flew past her head and shattered against a wall.

"Nope, that's normal," Ren said calmly, stepping in front of her on instinct. "Welcome to Fairy Tail."

Juvia clutched the bluebell pendant at her throat.

The hall was alive.

People argued over missions, over food, over nothing at all. Someone was laughing on a table. Someone else was sleeping on a chandelier. The air buzzed with magic, warmth, and something she couldn't name.

Belonging, maybe.

"…Ren!" a familiar voice roared.

A red-haired girl slammed a mug down and turned, eyes sharp enough to cut steel.

Erza.

She took one look at Juvia, then back at Ren.

"…Who is this," she asked slowly.

Ren opened his mouth.

Before he could speak—

"GRAYYYYY!!" another voice screamed.

"SHUT UP, FLAME-BRAIN!"

A fireball and an ice spear collided midair, detonating into smoke and sparks.

Juvia flinched hard.

"…They are fighting," she said softly. "…Is this because Juvia is here?"

Ren blinked. Then laughed.

"No, no. That's just Natsu and Gray."

As if summoned by name, the pink-haired boy popped out of the smoke, pointing at the half-naked ice mage.

"She started it!" Natsu accused.

"I didn't even talk to you!" Gray snapped.

A small blue cat fluttered between them, arms crossed.

"Wow," Happy said cheerfully. "New girl already thinks it's her fault. That's a record."

Juvia stared.

"…A talking cat."

"Aye!" Happy saluted.

Her lips parted.

Then—she laughed.

A real laugh.

Soft, surprised, and a little unsteady.

Ren watched her carefully.

She's not overwhelmed, he realized. She's… amazed.

---

Makarov appeared moments later, climbing down from a table like gravity was optional.

"Hoho?" the old guild master hummed, eyes twinkling as he studied Juvia. "A new face."

Ren bowed slightly. "Guild Master. This is Juvia. She's… looking for a home."

Makarov's gaze softened instantly.

"…Is that so."

Juvia swallowed and stepped forward, forcing herself not to retreat.

"…Juvia brings rain," she said quietly. "Juvia cannot always stop it."

The room—somehow—grew quieter.

Not silent. Fairy Tail never did silent.

But attentive.

Makarov placed a hand on his staff.

"Magic that overflows is not a curse," he said gently. "It's a heart that hasn't learned its shape yet."

Juvia's eyes trembled.

"…You are not afraid?"

"Hoho! Afraid?" He laughed. "We break buildings weekly!"

That earned a cheer.

Erza crossed her arms. "…We'll fix the roof."

"Eventually," Mira added from behind the bar, smiling softly at Juvia. "You must be Juvia. I'm Mirajane."

Juvia bowed quickly. "…You are very kind. And very… bright."

Mira laughed. "You'll fit right in."

---

Later, Makarov led Juvia to the open courtyard behind the guild hall.

Ren stayed close, but he didn't interrupt.

"Your magic responds to emotion," Makarov said, watching as mist gathered unconsciously around her feet. "You suppress it because you fear what it does."

"…Yes," Juvia admitted. "When Juvia feels too much, it rains."

"Then don't suppress it," Makarov said simply. "Guide it."

Ren raised an eyebrow.

Makarov smiled knowingly. "You've already started her on control, haven't you?"

Ren nodded. "Breathing. Focus. Anchoring."

"Good," Makarov said. "But control without acceptance will always leak."

He tapped the ground with his staff.

"Let it rain," he said.

Juvia hesitated—then closed her eyes.

The sky darkened.

Rain fell.

But this time—soft. Even. Gentle.

Not a storm.

Makarov chuckled. "See? The rain isn't angry. It's just honest."

Juvia opened her eyes, tears mixing with the drops.

"…Juvia can stay?"

Makarov smiled wide. "If you want to."

Ren felt something ease in his chest.

---

Inside, chaos had resumed at full volume.

Natsu and Gray were still fighting.

Erza cracked her knuckles.

"Enough," she said.

They froze instantly.

Happy leaned toward Juvia. "You get used to it. Or you join in."

"…Juvia does not punch," she said politely.

Gray glanced over—and froze.

"…Why is it raining inside?"

Juvia startled. "Ah—! Sorry—!"

Gray stared at her. Then—smiled faintly.

"…It's nice," he said.

Natsu scowled. "Hey! Why does ice-boy get compliments?!"

Juvia blinked.

"…He is cold," she said honestly. "…The rain likes him."

The guild erupted in laughter.

Ren watched it all—Juvia laughing, reacting, being seen without being feared.

Canon diverges here, he thought quietly.

And for once—

He didn't feel the need to correct fate.

---

By evening, Juvia sat at a table surrounded by food, noise, and people who treated her like she'd always been there.

She held the bluebell pendant again, smiling softly.

"…Juvia thinks," she said to Ren, voice warm, "that this rain… has found where it belongs."

Ren raised his mug.

"To loud homes," he said.

She clinked her cup against his.

"…And people who don't run."

Outside, the rain fell gently over Magnolia.

Not lonely.

Not lost.

Just… home.
