Chapter 86 - Chapter 85 — “When the Storm Chooses Its Side”

Year X784 — Early Summer

Location: Phantom Lord Mobile Guild — Magnolia Outskirts

---

The air around Phantom Lord's walking fortress screamed with magic.

Iron groaned. Runes pulsed. The massive structure loomed like a challenge carved into the sky.

Lucy swallowed.

This wasn't the guild hall anymore. This was enemy ground.

Erza stepped forward first, armor shifting into her Heaven's Wheel, blades hovering at her back. "Stay sharp. Phantom Lord's S-class—the Element Four—will engage us directly."

Mira's expression was calm, almost serene, demonic magic flowing quietly beneath her skin. "They're strong," she said softly. "But strength without bonds breaks easily."

Natsu cracked his neck, flames flickering. "Heh. Good. I was getting bored."

Juvia stood beside Lucy, rain-magic humming in control rather than chaos. Her blue eyes were clear.

"Juvia fights as Fairy Tail," she said firmly. "No hesitation."

Lucy nodded, gripping her keys. "Together."

Ren watched them from a short distance away.

Then he turned.

Because something else was coming.

---

Ren vs José Porla

The pressure hit first.

Heavy. Crushing. Ancient.

Phantom Lord's master descended slowly from the fortress balcony, cloak flowing, eyes glowing with oppressive magic.

José Porla.

"Child," José said, voice echoing unnaturally. "You carry yourself like a king. But you are still untested."

Ren rested his hand on his sword.

"You attacked my home," he replied evenly. "That's your test."

José raised his staff.

The world bent.

Gravity twisted. Magic thickened into suffocating weight.

Ren stepped forward anyway.

Sunlight flared.

José's eyes narrowed. "Solar magic?"

Ren exhaled.

Sun Breathing — First Form: Dawn Severance.

The pressure shattered.

The ground split in a straight line as Ren crossed the distance in a blink, blade burning gold. José barely raised a barrier in time—and still slid back, boots carving trenches.

Interest sparked.

"Oh?" José smiled thinly. "Good."

They vanished in a collision of light and void.

---

Element Four Engage

The fortress gates burst open.

"Iron Dragon's Roar!"

Steel tore through the air.

Natsu met it head-on, flames exploding as he laughed. "IRON guy! You're mine!"

Gajeel grinned, metal spikes forming along his arms. "Heh. Let's dance, Firebrain!"

Their clash shook the courtyard—fire and iron tearing chunks from stone.

---

A swirl of sand erupted nearby.

Sol's smug voice echoed. "Earth beats water every time."

Before he could finish—

A blade of water slammed into him, pinning him to the wall.

Juvia stepped forward, rain spiraling around her body with perfect control.

"Juvia is not alone anymore," she said calmly. "And Fairy Tail's water does not yield."

She moved—not with desperation, but rhythm.

Water Breathing — Third Form: Flowing Cascade.

Her arms traced arcs instead of blades, water shaping itself into cutting currents that slipped past Sol's defenses again and again.

Sol coughed, sand collapsing. "…Since when—?"

"Since Juvia found home."

---

Totomaru's flames spiraled outward, licking the air.

Mira didn't flinch.

Her Satan Soul unfolded—dark wings, serene fury.

Fire struck her.

And died.

She grabbed Totomaru mid-cast and slammed him into the ground hard enough to crack stone.

"Fire burns brightest when fueled by emotion," Mira said quietly. "But rage without love is hollow."

Totomaru didn't get back up.

---

The air vanished.

Lucy gasped as sound itself disappeared.

Aria.

The Element of Air.

Her lungs burned instantly.

Erza reacted without hesitation—switching to Adamantine Armor, tanking invisible pressure as she charged.

"Lucy!" Erza barked. "Cover your breathing!"

Lucy forced herself calm, summoning keys with shaking hands.

"Open—Gate of the Archer! Sagittarius!"

Golden arrows streaked blindly—but precisely—guided by Lucy's trust.

Aria reeled as sound snapped back violently.

Erza didn't waste the moment.

One slash.

One impact.

Aria fell, unconscious, the silence broken.

Lucy dropped to one knee, coughing—but smiling.

"We did it…"

Juvia was at her side instantly. "Juvia has you."

---

Back to Ren

José raised his staff again, magic swelling dangerously.

"You are talented," José admitted. "But Fairy Tail's bonds will be their downfall."

Ren's expression hardened.

"You don't understand bonds," he said quietly. "You see ownership. We see choice."

José unleashed everything.

Dark magic roared like a tidal wave.

Ren stepped forward into it.

Breath steady.

Heart calm.

Sun Breathing — Sixth Form: Solar Halo.

Light exploded outward in a perfect ring, vaporizing magic on contact.

José screamed as the halo slammed into him, shattering his staff and driving him into the fortress wall with a thunderous crash.

The structure groaned.

Cracks spread.

José collapsed, defeated.

Ren stood, sword lowered.

"It's over."

---

Aftermath

The fortress began to destabilize.

Erza barked orders instantly. "Everyone—withdraw! Now!"

Natsu laughed as Gajeel lay half-buried. "Heh. We'll finish this later, Metal-face!"

Lucy ran beside Juvia, heart racing, alive.

Mira looked back once at the falling fortress, then smiled.

Fairy Tail regrouped at the edge of Magnolia.

Breathing hard.

Laughing.

Standing.

Ren joined them last.

Erza crossed her arms, eyes sharp—but proud. "You okay?"

Ren nodded. "Yeah."

Lucy looked at him, then at her keys, then at the guild around her.

This is Fairy Tail.

Juvia gazed at the guild banner fluttering above them, rain finally gentle.

"Juvia is Fairy Tail," she whispered again—this time with certainty.

Behind them, Phantom Lord burned.

Ahead of them—

Only bonds strong enough to face whatever came next.
