Even at night, Hope Station kept its dim, hazy lights just like during the day, and there were still people constantly patrolling to guard against anything unusual appearing. For example, a group of zombies suddenly approaching from another direction, theft, or simply some unforeseen chaos.
Dyan and Louis rested right beneath the lights. Dyan spread a layer of cardboard on the ground and promptly fell into a deep sleep. Just then, the person inside the tent seemed to sense something…
Louis' eyes flew open, a faint glint of red flashing through his pitch-black pupils. Because of the Blood Contract, Louis could sense Varkas raging in frustration—pain, and then even more anger that had no outlet. Varkas truly had a terrible temper, but this time he had lost to someone else; aside from being angry, there was nothing he could do. So hidden within that anger was helplessness and a trace of grievance, an emotion that Louis would not have noticed had he not deliberately tried to feel it.
