"Frankie, wake up."
I woke up groggily. The taste of copper filled my mouth.
My eyelids were heavy and i struggled to open them.
In Front of me stood a girl. She looked... worried. I couldn't remember the last time someone was worried about me I thought as i chuckled mirthlessly.
"Are you okay?" She asked as the worry never left her face.
"Yeah." I said hoarsely my voice sounding rough.My throat felt like sandpaper.
"Do you have water." I asked
"Uh..Yeah. Here" She said handing me a flask of water. I drank it like a dying man every drop felt like liquid relief.
I final felt my thirst quenched and my throat no longer felt like sandpaper
I look around at the familiar yet foreign. I remember this place this was the place where I had seen the other version of me when I was riding back.
"Who are you?" I say suspiciously. Years of experience had taught me to trust no one. Especially those who are nice for no reason.
"You don't remember me?" She said looking shocked
The fact she said that unsettled me. Something about her looked familiar but i couldn't put my finger on it.
She sighed. "I'm Clair, your classmate from university. We went to the same class for business innovation, remember now?"
I remember her. Her piercing blue eyes were always uncomfortable, making you feel like all your secrets were laid bare before her. She was always alone due to those eyes. I tolerated her. Her eyes were piercing but my shield were thicker but that only seemed to intrigue her making her want nothing more than to see what laid behind the walls.
"I remember." I say dismissively but I could hear the defensive note that appeared in my voice. Pathetic.
I saw her open my mouth as if she wanted to say something but her expression changed. Fear creeping in her features.
"We need to run" She whispered fearfully "Now!"
She grabbed my hand and dragged me along with her.
We ran from something and I could hear it behind us. Chasing us.
We ducked behind the tree. "In here" Clair whispered and pointed to the empty entrance beneath the root system of the tree. Enough space for two.
I scrambled in after her and we kept quiet as whatever was chasing as ran past, then walked back releasing some sniffing and grunting sounds as it sniffed the air trying to find us.
I saw Clair cover her mouth, stifling her scream that worked itself up her throat struggling to come out.
I release an inhumane grunt and it spoke.
"Frankie...Boss....Wants you." I heard it say and felt my blood run cold. I looked at Clair she didn't seem to have heard its words.
I didn't even know what the hell was happening I didn't want to be chased some monster boss.
