Chapter 64 - Chapter 64 -The Spotlight Dance

Indhu's POV

It was a bright Sunday evening.

Finally—no school. I should've been celebrating at home, wrapped in laziness.

Instead, here I was, walking into an auditorium because Swetha had a dance program.

Don't get me wrong—I wanted to be here. Swetha had been talking about this for weeks. Still, the moment we stepped inside and her mother greeted us warmly, the place felt… bigger. Louder. Important.

And then I realized something.

Everyone was looking at me.

I glanced down at my half-saree, the soft pastel fabric falling perfectly—too perfectly. I hated these kinds of outfits. If Amma hadn't insisted, I would've shown up in a loose top and jeans, no second thoughts. But today… I didn't hate it as much as I expected.

I felt excited. Nervous. A little exposed.

That's when I noticed Aditya.

He stopped. Actually stopped walking.

He cleared his throat quickly, pretending to be casual, but his eyes betrayed him. They lingered just a second longer than normal. I looked away instantly, heat rising to my cheeks, pretending I hadn't noticed.

Rohan noticed though. Of course he did. I saw the smirk forming.

Charlotte arrived moments later, graceful as always in her chudidhar, braid swinging.

"Wow, look at all of us today! But where's our star?" she asked.

And right on cue—there was Swetha.

She looked unreal.

The saree, the jewelry, the confidence—it was like the spotlight had chosen her even before she stepped on stage. This was her world. Bharatanatyam had always been part of her, even if she got nervous saying it out loud.

I thought about myself for a second.

I used to dance too. Still could, technically. But I never loved it the way she did. Amma had already said I could stop after 10th. And honestly? I wasn't sad about it.

"You guys wait here," Swetha said, excitement trembling in her voice. "I'll be back after my performance."

When the music began, the auditorium fell silent.

The moment she stepped onto the stage, everything changed.

She moved like she belonged there—each step confident, each expression alive. The lights caught her perfectly. I leaned forward without realizing.

"Wow," I whispered. "She's really glowing."

"She was born for this," Charlotte murmured beside me.

When the performance ended, Rohan clapped like his life depended on it.

"That's our Shweta!" he shouted.

I laughed, joining in. Aditya clapped too, calmer—but I noticed how proud he looked.

Backstage, we surrounded her instantly.

She killed it.

Compliments flew everywhere. Charlotte adjusted her pallu dramatically. Aditya teased Rohan. Rohan teased Aditya right back.

And then… Charlotte whispered something about art, half-sarees, and roses.

I blinked. "What?"

Charlotte just grinned. I swatted her arm, confused, while Aditya nearly combusted.

Later, when Aditya and I teased Rohan about how awestruck he looked during Swetha's performance, he actually blushed.

Rohan. Blushed.

That alone made the entire evening worth it.

As we ate snacks and laughed until our stomachs hurt, I realized something quietly.

This wasn't just about a dance program.

It was about watching our friend shine.

About noticing small glances.

About teasing, blushing, pretending not to care.

One day, we'd remember this evening and smile.

And somehow… I knew I always would.
