Chapter 74 - Chapter 74-The Camping Proposal

Indhu's POV

The last school trip of the academic year had everyone buzzing. I love trips — tents, trails, freedom — but exams? Yeah, no. Absolute enemies.

The warm midday sun greeted us as we reached the camping site. Everything felt lighter somehow. No classrooms, no bells, just laughter and dust and sunlight.

Shweta, Charlotte, Rohan, and I crouched near the edge of a small lake, completely absorbed in getting the perfect picture with my camera. Charlotte was adjusting the angle like a professional director, balancing on one leg for dramatic effect, while Aditya had gone to the store to get something.

"Indhu, move a little to the left… no, your hair! It's like a sunrise!" Charlotte instructed.

I laughed, trying to fix it.

"You're going to need a whole album just for these poses," Shweta teased.

Rohan, holding the camera bag, added, "Smile naturally… naturally… like you're not thinking about your life decisions."

I giggled and adjusted the lens — and that's when everything changed.

A senior from school approached us. His footsteps were hesitant, and something about his expression made my stomach tighten.

"Uh… Indhu," he said softly, "I hope I'm not interrupting, but… I was wondering if you'd… maybe… go out with me?"

My brain froze.

The camera slipped slightly in my hands. I stared at him, completely shocked.

Shweta gasped. "Wait, what? Did he just—?"

Charlotte's jaw dropped. "No way. He just… proposed? Mid-photo shoot?"

Rohan raised his hands dramatically. "Did anyone else feel the ground shake from this plot twist?"

I could barely process what was happening. "I… I need a moment," I stammered.

The senior immediately looked apologetic. "Take your time. Think about it. No rush. I'll wait until tomorrow morning if you want."

That night, inside the tent, the air was full of whispers and suppressed giggles. But I couldn't fully join in — my thoughts felt heavy.

"So… this is what happens in movies, right?" Charlotte whispered. "Someone proposes in the middle of the day?"

Shweta laughed. "And you just stand there like a stunned statue!"

I sighed, staring at the tent ceiling. "I just… I don't think I'm ready for this. I've seen enough in my family. Love is complicated. I just want to be happy, single, and peaceful."

They both nodded, understanding more than I expected. To lighten the mood, we made silly "proposal advice lists" and joked about survival tips for unexpected confessions.

Rohan peeked into the tent, muttering, "Why does everyone always drag me into dramatic scenarios?"

But he forgot to tell Aditya.

The next morning, I walked toward the lake, my hair messy from sleep. Aditya was fishing quietly when he noticed me.

"Wait," he said, concerned. "You didn't sleep well? You look tired."

Before I could answer, Shweta and Rohan jumped in.

"Of course she didn't sleep!" Shweta whispered loudly. "How can you sleep when a senior confesses to you?"

"Yeah," Rohan added, grinning. "Full-blown K-drama. Poor Indhu!"

Aditya frowned slightly. "Wait… what senior?"

Rohan smirked. "The one who practically proposed yesterday."

I rolled my eyes, trying not to blush. "Yes… well, I told him—"

That's when the senior appeared.

I took a deep breath and stood tall.

"Actually," I said calmly, "I'm not interested in these things. I've seen a lot in my family and between my parents. I don't want complications. I want to stay single. It's happy and simple. I hope you understand. Sorry, brother."

He nodded respectfully, smiling. "That's completely fine. I respect your decision."

Relief washed over me.

Shweta clapped softly. "Wow… Indhu. So graceful."

Charlotte grinned. "And he respected you! Legendary."

Rohan bowed dramatically. "I bow to you, Queen of Cool Rejections."

Aditya didn't say anything. But when I looked at him, his eyes held a quiet warmth — approval, pride, something gentle that didn't need words.

I let out a slow breath as we walked back to camp, laughing and teasing under the morning sun.

Even in chaos, friendship — and a little quiet strength — always shines through. 💛
