Indhu's POV
The rain from the day before had left the streets smelling of wet earth. As I stepped out of my gate with my cycle, I looked up at the sky. It was painted in soft shades of orange and pink, with clouds drifting lazily like pieces of cotton pulled apart.
My hair was freshly washed and left loose, falling in soft waves behind me. A thin black headband kept it from flying into my eyes. I wore a black loose top tucked lightly into simple pants. I wasn't trying to dress up—I just wanted to enjoy the evening.
I started pedaling slowly, letting the cool breeze brush against my face. After yesterday's rain, everything felt peaceful.
"Indhu!"
I turned and smiled.
It was Aditya.
He rode his cycle beside mine, wearing a black shirt that caught the last golden light of the sunset. Like always, he had that calm expression with the tiniest smile.
"You came out alone?" he asked.
"Hmm," I nodded. "I just felt like riding. Rain makes everything... lighter."
He glanced at me for a moment but didn't say anything. Somehow, the silence between us never felt awkward. The wind seemed to speak more than words ever could.
---
We continued cycling side by side. The roads were quiet except for the sound of our wheels rolling and pedals turning.
Suddenly—
"Boo!"
I nearly jumped.
Shweta zoomed past us on her cycle, laughing loudly. She was wearing a bright green top that perfectly matched her energetic personality.
Behind her came Rohan, pretending to race after her.
"You're too slow!" he shouted, trying to catch Shweta while flashing a mischievous grin at Aditya and me.
A few seconds later, Charlotte joined us too. She rode gracefully, wearing a white top with a matching white headband. Her cycle basket held a small packet of chips as if it were something priceless.
I couldn't help smiling.
Now all five of us were together.
---
Within minutes, the empty roads were filled with our laughter.
Shweta and Rohan immediately turned the ride into a race, trying to overtake each other every few seconds.
Charlotte simply laughed and teased them from behind.
Aditya stayed beside me, matching my speed almost perfectly as we rode together.
The cool breeze felt wonderful.
Without thinking, I stretched both my hands out for a moment and closed my eyes, letting the wind push gently against me.
"Careful, artist!" Shweta whistled.
Everyone burst into laughter, including me.
---
After a while, we stopped near a small lakeside park.
The water reflected the beautiful evening sky as we parked our cycles neatly in a row.
We sat together on the grassy bank and opened Charlotte's packet of chips.
Very quickly, an argument started.
"It was me," Rohan declared proudly. "I won the race."
"In your dreams," Shweta replied immediately.
Charlotte calmly took another chip.
"Both of you are wrong," she said with a straight face. "The real winner is clearly... these chips."
We all laughed.
I leaned back on my arms, enjoying the cool evening air.
Aditya sat quietly beside me. He didn't speak much, but I knew he was enjoying being with all of us just as much as I was.
Moments like these never needed many words.
---
As the evening slowly came to an end, we got back on our cycles and started riding home.
We rode in a loose line, laughing and talking as the empty streets echoed with our voices.
A light drizzle began to fall again.
Tiny droplets landed on our hair and clothes, making everything feel even more peaceful.
By the time we reached the corner where we all went our separate ways, our clothes were slightly damp from the misty rain.
But none of us cared.
Our cheeks were warm from laughing, our eyes were bright, and somehow... our hearts felt lighter than before.
As I pedaled the rest of the way home, I smiled to myself.
Maybe some wishes... like riding in the rain with the people I care about... really do come true, even when you never plan for them.
