Chapter 11 - [Arc 1 Chapter 2: blankets!!!]

As they headed through the forest, it started to get dark. Grégoire yawned tiredly, tears prickling up in the corners of his eyes.

He stood up and started to check out the house-like carriage. He sat down on the small bed and felt the softness of the covers.

They were a lot softer and thicker than the ones at the manor. He lay down and rubbed his cheek against them, enjoying the warmth. His tail wagged softly.

He felt the carriage stop and checked the window to see why. The door opened, and Charlie walked in and grabbed a small bag.

"What are you doing?" He propped himself up and swung his legs over the bed.

"I'm sleeping out." She frowned at him.

"Why? There are two beds here. Wouldn't it be easier this way? The blan-"

"I don't want to risk you being a creep," she interrupted him.

"Okay." He lay back down and enjoyed the warmth of the blankets more.

Charlie looked at him for a moment, then sat down on the other bed.

"I thought you were going to sleep out." He looked at her and smirked. "Did you like the blankets as well?"

Charlie gave him a weird look. "Dude. Stop talking about the blankets."

Grégoire giggled softly. "I just haven't felt anything like these before."

"It gets really cold out here. That's why they're so thick." She started unpacking her bag. "Get out for a moment."

"Sure?" He got out and closed the door, waiting outside in the dark.

A few minutes later, Charlie opened the door. She was in the same night robe from the previous night.

Grégoire walked inside the carriage and sat back on the bed.

"Why can't we let the beast trot while we rest?" He tilted his head curiously.

Charlie looked disappointed.

"Because it would wander off, William."

She said it gently, as if talking to an idiot.

The next morning, they woke up and started heading towards the capital.

Grégoire, still in the back, watched outside through the window.

As they got closer to the city, Grégoire saw a train pass by, and his mouth hung wide open.

He quickly opened the small window that led to the rider's seat.

"Charlie! What is that!" he said curiously.

Charlie didn't look at him, but he could tell she was annoyed by the sigh she let out, so he quickly closed the window and sat back down.

Time passed. A huge wall with watchtowers on top came into view.

They headed towards a gate.

A guard held his hand up to signal for the carriage to stop.

Charlie stopped it and pointed her chin towards the carriage.

One guard checked the bottom while another looked inside the small house-like carriage.

He gently opened the door...

[Author note: DDLC...]

And he saw Grégoire rubbing his head against the blanket.

He slowly closed it.

A few minutes passed, and they were signaled towards the gate.

They finally got in, and after a while, the carriage stopped. Charlie opened the door.

"We're here. Get out. I'm taking a nap." She tossed him a pair of keys and pointed behind herself.

Grégoire caught them and took the soft blanket. He got out and headed towards the door she had pointed to. He put the key in the lock and walked inside.

The first thing he saw was a small living room. On the coat rack hung the coat William's father had worn the last time they ate together.

He heard a small rustling sound from the other room.

He walked towards it and held his hand above the door handle.

He opened it and tossed the blanket he was holding. It covered someone's body. He pushed them against the wall and heard a big whine.

"William! Whyy!!!" a young, whiny female voice screamed.

He let go and pulled the blanket off. A girl with ram horns similar to his lay underneath.

She had medium-length, voluminous hair and hazel-brown eyes.

She pushed him away and frowned, crossing her arms.

"I was trying to scare you. You didn't need to go THAT far." She looked at him, disappointed.

"Sorry. It's been hard lately." He sighed and tied the blanket around his neck, making it into a makeshift cape.

She looked at him weirdly and suspiciously.

"Sorry..." she repeated.

She got out of the room, leaving him standing there with his cape.
