"We should be generous," Amara said quietly, running her thumb along the edge of the second folder. "More than generous. Enough that he never has to think twice about anything again. A house near his family, if he wants it. Enough set aside that his grandchildren's futures are taken care of too."
Julian didn't argue, didn't hesitate, didn't so much as blink at the number Amara eventually wrote down.
He simply reached over, took the pen from her hand when she was finished, and added his own signature beneath hers without a word of protest because he understood, better than almost anyone, exactly what a man like James was worth, and exactly what it meant that Amara wanted to send both of the people who had shaped her life off into their new beginnings not with mere gratitude, but with the kind of security that meant they would never again have to sacrifice anything for anyone but themselves.
