Chapter 17 - New World

As he finished dressing up, he searched for his sister, no her sister's doppelganger. He found her nearby a two meter wide tree that reached high in the sky.

"Am done." he said behind her back.

She faced him, "You mana is miniscule but I didn't expect you to have spatial magic. It is a rare talent."

"Spatial magic? Oh you mean inventory?"

"Inventory, what's that?"

"Well... it is not categorized as magic, you can say it is a byproduct of having a system."

"System? Are you perhaps a Tower climber?"

That word alone made Reagan remember the nightmare he wanted to forget. The death of his family and friends, the world destruction, he will make sure he avenge them. The Outer Gods better prepare themselves.

"That is a lot of killing intent. What did the Tower do to you?"

"Sorry. Just bad memories." he said trying to manage his rage. "How do you know about the tower? Does this world have them?"

"Yes and no." she said as she followed the path that leads outside the forest. "The Towers appeared almost a millennium ago. Rumors had it that those who cleared the Tower used a system. Guess it was true."

"Did the Towers vanish or are they still here?" he asked. If the Towers hadn't vanished, he would use them to prepare for his revenge. The only problem is finding a way to enter.

"No. They disappeared after they were cleared."

"Hmm? Then how come you have mana?"

"We had mana long before Towers appeared. But recently, the mana in this world increased. Ten years ago, gates started appearing all over the world."

"I am assuming these 'gates' have monsters."

"Yeah they do." she answered. By now they had reached a tarmac road. There was a black limo parked beside the road.

"You have cars in this world?" Reagan questioned. When heard this world was filled with magic, he didn't expect it to have advanced technologically. This is a surprise.

A driver came out from the driver's seat when he saw them. When he saw Reagan, he froze.

"Ahem." Laura cleared her throat making the driver continue what he was supposed to do. He opened the back door of the car. Laura entered but when Reagan tried to enter, the driver blocked him and closed the door.

Reagan faced the man in front of him.

"What is the meaning of this?"

Laura rolled her window halfway, "You may have a face that resemble my brother, but you're not my brother."

Reagan was quite surprised. He thought she'd accept him as her brother but the feelings weren't mutual.

He then remembered his sister was always obsessed with food.

"I will treat you to a meal."

Laura faced him almost falling for the temptation.

"I have money to buy my own food." She knocked her window signalling the driver to go.

"Wait, I can give you an item."

"Stop wasting my time. What item can you offer?"

Reagan withdrew one of the dragon fangs he had. The weapons in his inventory had disappeared but the dragon's claws and fangs were still there.

Laura was shocked upon seeing the item. The last a dragon was seen was ten years ago.

"How did you get that?" she asked as she signaled the driver to stop.

"How else. I defeated a dragon." Reagan answered.

Laura immediately opened the door. Reagan smiled as he entered. The car drove off.

Laura was admiring the fang, her eyes gleaming when Reagan proposed an offer.

"I will give you another one if you tell me everything about this world."

"How about you work for me. Don't worry, I'll pay you."

"Then it's a deal."

"The gates appeared ten years ago." she began. "That was when my brother died fighting a dragon. Each gate opens up a different dimension called dungeons. A dungeon holds monsters which if not defeated within a week when dungeons appear, they break. We call this a dungeon break. The monsters inside the dungeons are called dungeon dwellers and those that escape the dungeons are called roamers."

"Why did you suspect I was a roamer when I am a human?"

"There have been cases of monsters mimicking those who are not monsters. It's only right to be suspicious." She answered the reason for her earlier behavior.

"Where were we?"

"About dungeons."

"Dungeons are classified into six ranks: S rank being the strongest followed by, A rank, B rank, C rank, D rank, and the weakest being E rank. The monsters ranks are classified prior to the dungeons they are in. A monster from an S gate will be rank S, from A gate rank A and so on. Although mana was there before, only a few could use magic. When gates appeared, the mana inside leaked into the outside world. The leaked mana lead to the awakening. Those who awakened were able to use skills. They would then use their skills to challenge the dungeons. These awakeners are called hunters. Fame, power, wealth, the dungeons granted all this. The hunters are also classified into ranks. The weakest being E rank hunter. The only difference between them and non awakeners is that they have a bit of Mana in their body. They follow D rank hunters then C rank, B rank, A rank, S rank and finally the strongest are National Hunters. Most of National Hunters are those who could manipulate Mana before the gates appeared."

"And what rank do you think I am?" Reagan interrupted her.

"If we are measuring using only Mana, you are in between B rank and A rank but if we are using your physical strength, then you rival S rank hunters." she explained.

'S rank huh. Is it because I was previously a knight. But as long as I level up I can be the strongest person in this world.'

"Don't worry about, even though you have low mana you qualify to at least being an A rank hunter." she comforted him. "There have been many similar cases like yours. Although your mana can't increase from when someone awakens."

"Why?"

"Mana only pushes one to their limit. If the mana in your body even slightly increases, your body would explode.

Lastly, hunters are classified using their abilities. There are healers, mages, archers, knights and so on. That is all." She concluded
