He opened the store door. The bell rang. Maru was there. Looked at him. Smiled.
"Hello. Do you need anything?"
Kenji stood before him. Took a deep breath.
"I don't remember everything. I don't remember the battles. I don't remember the world. I don't remember how we met."
He paused.
"But I remember that I loved you."
Maru froze. Then his eyes teared up.
"Me too. I don't remember everything. But I remember that I loved you."
They hugged.
They didn't need words. The feeling was enough.
That day, Kenji didn't leave the store. He sat with Maru. Talked about small things. About the weather. About work. About the future.
They didn't talk about the past. They no longer needed it.
