Chu Luyao wasn't the only one who received a final package from Zhou Du; Song Yuhuan did, too.
Zhou Du had sent the wedding ring to him. Even though the two men had different builds, when Song Yuhuan slid the ring onto his finger, it fit with chilling perfection.
"Secretary Song, that ring looks familiar... I swear I've seen it somewhere before..."
"Secretary Song is decked out in high fashion from head to toe. Why would he wear a mass-market style? It's probably just a similar design element."
"But look at the finger he's wearing it on... Secretary Song, since when are you married?"
In the office pantry, sharp-eyed colleagues spotted the glint on Song Yuhuan's hand and swarmed around him to gossip.
Song Yuhuan, maintaining his persona of the "low-key wealthy heir," smiled sheepishly and tucked his hand away.
"I'm not married yet, but soon. I'll make sure to invite you all to the wedding when the time comes."
The colleagues wore expressions of envy. But before the words of flattery could leave their mouths, the pantry door was slammed open with violent force.
Chu Luyao stood in the doorway, her expression dark and thunderous.
"Sister Yaoyao, why are you here?"
For some reason, a tendril of panic curled in Song Yuhuan's chest.
The colleagues, shrewd enough to sense the coming storm, quietly evaporated, closing the door behind them.
"Why is Ah Du's wedding ring on your hand?"
Chu Luyao's voice was chilled to absolute zero. Every word struck wildly against Song Yuhuan's heart.
Song Yuhuan suppressed the panic rising within him and forced himself to speak calmly.
"I didn't know this was your wedding ring. The ring was sent to me by Brother Zhou. He left me a note saying that it would suit me very well."
Seeing Chu Luyao's face turning darker by the second, Song Yuhuan scrambled to salvage the situation.
"I just thought it was an ordinary gift, so I put it on. I didn't expect it to be a wedding ring."
"How did Ah Du know about the relationship between you and me? Did you tell him?"
"And the wine estate I gifted you—why was it listed for auction?"
Song Yuhuan was slick and quick-witted, always keeping a card up his sleeve. He had wiped his chat history with Zhou Du long ago.
He unlocked his phone and shoved it into Chu Luyao's hands. "I know how much you value Brother Zhou, and I know I'm far beneath him. Just getting a scrap of your affection is enough to satisfy me; I would never dream of destroying your marriage with Brother Zhou."
"As for the estate... it's like this... My mother was diagnosed with a rare disease last month—the same disease my brother had. The doctor said the treatment requires a huge sum of money. I couldn't scrape enough together, so I had no choice but to sell the estate."
Song Yuhuan's performance was impeccable. At the mention of his sick family member, his eyes instantly reddened.
He knew that the death of Song Yuheng had always been a painful scar in Chu Luyao's heart.
However, Chu Luyao was singularly focused on finding Zhou Du's whereabouts. She had no patience for his weeping, nor did she have the time to scroll through his phone records herself.
She tossed the phone to the assistant standing behind her.
Song Yuhuan hadn't anticipated this move. A vein in his temple began to throb violently.
Rumor had it that Attorney Chu's assistant was a high-achieving scholar who had graduated with a double degree in Law and Computer Science.
"Found it. All the messages Song Yuhuan sent to President Zhou have been recovered."
