Chapter 3 - Sparks and Secrets

Ethan

The library was supposed to be my safe haven. Quiet, untouched, a place where I could focus on classes and ignore the chaos of the campus. But she had other plans.

Serena was there, lounging in a corner like she owned the room. She spotted me immediately, her lips curving into that infuriating, magnetic smile.

"Studying alone again?" she teased, leaning against the shelf as I approached.

I ignored her question and opened my textbook. Focus, Ethan, I told myself. But the heat of her presence was impossible to ignore.

"You know," she whispered, stepping closer, "I could make studying a lot more… interesting."

I glanced up. Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and my heart betrayed me by skipping a beat. I cleared my throat. "I don't get distracted easily."

"Good," she purred, brushing a strand of hair from my shoulder. "I like a challenge."

Watching him resist me was like playing with fire. I wanted to lean in, see if he'd flinch. But part of me relished the chase—he was untouchable, dangerous, irresistible.

I let my fingers brush his arm, just barely. He didn't react. My pulse quickened.

"You're so… calm," I breathed.

"I have to be," he replied evenly. "People like you aren't easy to impress."

That only made me smile wider. Most men would have fallen instantly. Not him. I liked that.

"Then I'll have to work harder," I said, standing on my tiptoes so my lips were just inches from his ear. "And I always get what I want."

Her nearness was dangerous. Every nerve in my body screamed to pull away, but something inside me didn't want to. Desire, frustration, curiosity—all tangled together.

I swallowed hard. "Just don't mistake my patience for weakness," I said quietly.

Her laugh was soft, teasing. "Oh, I don't. But patience is boring. I prefer sparks."

Before I could respond, a shadow fell over us—her friend Lana, smirking knowingly.

"Well, well," she said. "Looks like someone finally caught Serena's attention."

Serena's smirk didn't falter. But I noticed the tiny twitch of nerves in her eyes—her secret game had begun.

And I was right in the middle of it.

Ethan didn't know it yet, but my world was full of rules, and every rule was about to be tested. I'd make him mine—body, mind, and heart. The question was… could he survive it?
