Damian sat across from Amanda at their usual table in the far corner of the cafeteria, the best view of the quad windows, and that was usually abandoned by other students for a reason he was yet to discover.
Amanda was talking animatedly about her first real conversation with Ethan this morning, her hands waving as she described how she'd felt when everything was happening.
Damian forced a smile, nodding along. "That's… really sweet."
It was sweet. Ethan was good to her. Gentle. Attentive in all the ways Damian had always hoped someone would be for Amanda. And Amanda was glowing, cheeks pink, laughter light, the kind of happy that made her whole face softer. It looked right. It felt right.
But something in Damian's chest twisted anyway.
