Next Day in River Town
Morning in River Town was beautiful. A few clouds drifted across the sky, and sunlight shimmered on the surface of the river.
Adventurers walked through the streets toward the Adventurers' Guild, some chatting casually, others checking their equipment.
Merchants opened their shops, lifting wooden shutters and arranging their goods, while carts arrived to unload supplies for the day ahead.
River Town had a population of just over ten thousand, but anyone seeing the bustling streets would think it was a small city.
River Town was located beside the Blue Mist River, an important waterway that flowed through the Human Queendom and served as a major merchant shipping route.
On the other side of the river lay a vast forest filled with monster beasts and natural treasures. Because of this, adventurers from surrounding towns gathered in River Town to make a living, which was why the town was always so lively.
The streets of River Town were filled mostly with female adventurers and female merchants. Men were few, usually accompanying their wives while shopping.
All of a sudden, many women's eyes were drawn to a handsome young man walking toward the Adventurers' Guild.
His youthful build, blond hair shining under the sunlight, and gray eyes that resembled drifting mist instantly caught the attention of young women who had never experienced love before.
A beautiful young lady whispered to her friend.
"Bela… I think I'm in love."
Bela nodded quickly. "I feel the same…"
Nearby, a man noticed his wife staring at the handsome stranger. Jealousy flashed in his eyes. He stomped hard on his wife's foot and hurriedly pulled her away.
"What does that guy have besides good looks?" he muttered with a huff.
The man who had become the center of attention was none other than Raeshan. He walked calmly toward the Adventurers' Guild to begin his new job.
After a few minutes, Raeshan spotted the Adventurers' Guild building.
A three-story structure made of stone and wood stood firmly along the bustling main road. It was large and well-maintained, clearly different from the ordinary buildings around it.
A huge sign hung at the front, easily catching everyone's attention.
The words carved onto it read:
[Adventurers' Guild – River Town Branch]
The River Town Adventurers' Guild was a major force within the town. Not only in River Town, but even across the Human Queendom, the Adventurers' Guild held significant influence.
Backed by a former member of the Heroine Party, the guild had grown into a powerful organization, strong enough to stand against even the Royal Family and the Royal Academy.
Raeshan entered the Adventurers' Guild.
Just moments ago, the interior had been filled with adventurers talking, laughing, and planning their next missions. Now, it suddenly became quieter.
Adventurers who noticed Raeshan began staring at him, momentarily overwhelmed by his looks.
One female adventurer froze as she looked at him. Her party members noticed her fixed gaze and grew puzzled. They followed her line of sight toward the entrance, only to see a handsome young man standing there.
But he wasn't just handsome.
He was too handsome.
Raeshan didn't care about the adventurers around him. Instead, he walked straight toward the River Town Guild Master's office to officially join as a receptionist.
Inside the spacious room, rare monster materials and weapons were displayed along the walls. At the center stood a large stone table covered with documents and reports.
Sitting on a luxurious chair was a strong-looking woman. She was no longer beautiful, but one could tell from her features that she must have been stunning in her younger days.
Her name was Zarephia, an A-rank adventurer and powerful warrior who had been stationed in River Town as the Guild Master for six years.
Standing beside her was a young woman named Ryn, her assistant. However, Ryn was staring at the young man in front of her with openly lustful eyes.
The man seated before Zarephia was Raeshan.
"So you are Raeshan, the one recommended from the capital to become a receptionist," Zarephia said calmly as she looked at the letter from headquarters.
"Yes, ma'am. I'm Raeshan," he replied.
"I've checked the letter. From today onward, you are officially a receptionist of our guild," Zarephia said.
"Thank you, Zarephia ma'am," Raeshan said, bowing slightly in gratitude.
"It's fine. You're part of the guild now," Zarephia replied. "We've been short on staff recently, so work hard, young man." She let out a light laugh.
After that, Raeshan left the Guild Master's office and headed toward the staff room on the first floor.
Once he was gone, only Zarephia and Ryn remained in the room.
Ryn glanced at Zarephia and said with a grin, "Our new receptionist is really handsome. With him here, adventurers will start flooding into the guild just to take quests."
Zarephia looked at Ryn and immediately noticed the lustful look in her eyes. She understood her thoughts at once.
"Don't think about touching him," Zarephia said flatly.
Ryn blinked. "Did Master take a liking to him?"
"Don't be stupid," Zarephia replied sharply. "Have you ever seen headquarters send a recommendation for a receptionist?"
Her serious tone made Ryn stiffen.
She finally realized what Zarephia meant. Why would headquarters personally recommend someone for such a low position?
"I don't know his background yet," Zarephia continued. "Don't bother him. If you do, you could end up in serious trouble."
Ryn immediately became serious.
With her decades of experience as an adventurer, Zarephia came to one conclusion.
Raeshan was likely connected to someone powerful within the guild headquarters.
Raeshan reached the staff room on the first floor.
It was a long, narrow room with several wooden desks arranged neatly in rows. Papers, stamps, and quest forms were stacked everywhere. A few staff members were already busy sorting documents and registering adventurers.
As Raeshan entered, several eyes turned toward him.
For a brief moment, the room fell quiet again.
One female staff member paused mid-movement, her hand still holding a stack of forms. Another slowly lifted her head, staring without realizing it.
Raeshan gave a small nod in greeting and walked to the empty desk assigned to him.
"This must be mine," he muttered.
He placed his cloak on the back of the chair and sat down. On the desk were blank registration forms, a guild stamp, and a simple nameplate with the word Receptionist carved into it.
He picked up one of the forms and scanned it.
"So this is what I'll be doing now," he said quietly.
At that moment, footsteps approached.
A woman in a staff uniform stopped beside his desk, pretending to organize papers while clearly sneaking glances at him.
"You're the new receptionist, right?" she asked.
"Yes," Raeshan replied calmly. "Raeshan."
Her smile widened. "I'm Lira. If you need help, you can ask me anytime."
"I'll keep that in mind," he said politely.
Lira lingered for a moment longer before finally walking away.
Raeshan returned his attention to the paperwork, unaware that for many of the guild staff, their quiet workday had just become far more interesting.
