Chapter 166 - Chapter 164: Interrogation and Misdirection

Over an hour later, inside an interrogation room at the Los Angeles Police Department.

Hunter sat across a table from two white police officers.

He subconsciously glanced at their ranks—one Detective Inspector and one officer.

Because he was only a person of interest, and during the process of being asked to come to the station, Hunter didn't flee or show any resistance.

Therefore, he wasn't handcuffed and could still move freely.

"Mr. Hunter Sun, where were you between 10 PM last night and 3 AM this morning? And what were you doing?"

Hunter answered directly without even thinking: "At my girlfriend Slater Brief's home. At first, we were having sex. Later, I got tired and rested."

The officer quickly recorded what he said.

The Detective Inspector didn't make things difficult for Hunter on this question.

However, he soon took out several photos from a drawer on the other side of the table and placed them in front of Hunter.

"Do you recognize these people?"

Hunter looked; they were indeed photos of Charlie Clock and the others.

Lately, he had been constantly maneuvering between several women.

Although the Acting skill was something Hunter had only recently triggered, because there were so many occasions to practice...

In just over a week, he had already leveled it up to LV3.

LV3 Acting was enough for Hunter to deceive many people.

He looked blankly at the photos of Playboy Rob and the Black man, Left Ear, as if he didn't know them at all.

His slightly furrowed brow showed a faint unease at the death photos of the two lying in pools of blood.

It wasn't until he saw the photos of Charlie Clock and Lyle that Hunter showed a surprised expression.

The Detective Inspector and the officer across the table had been staring at him.

Keenly capturing the change in Hunter's expression, they asked, "Sir, do you know them?"

Hunter nodded, then shook his head.

He reached out and pointed at Charlie Clock and Lyle. "I know these two; I haven't seen the other two."

The Detective Inspector frowned slightly and continued to press: "Do you know who they are? What kind of work do they do?"

"This one said his name is Charlie, and this is Lyle. As for their work, I really don't know."

Hunter shook his head, preparing to turn on the Acting.

He pretended to hesitate for a moment, looking as if he wanted to speak but stopped himself.

Seeing this, the two interrogating officers immediately realized that Hunter might know something.

So they immediately asked: "Sir, if you have any important clues, please tell us."

"After all, this involves three lives."

Seeing this, a look of struggle flashed across Hunter's face.

After a while, he gritted his teeth and replied, "Charlie asked me to help him modify a vehicle before; that's how I got to know him."

"As for Lyle, Charlie brought him in later, saying he was a computer expert."

"At the time, they asked me to help modify their cars, and the pay was very high."

"The cars were fitted with anti-collision devices, reinforced structures, and high-power engines. Some electronic equipment was also installed inside."

"However, I didn't understand those."

"Lyle was the one responsible for guiding me on how to install those electronic devices."

The Detective Inspector's eyes lit up upon hearing this.

"Can you go into more detail? When exactly did you help them modify the vehicles?"

At this moment, both police officers had a feeling.

It was likely that the three people killed not only knew each other but might also have some hidden secrets.

Consequently, they began to understand why Hunter Sun had seemed to hesitate and struggle earlier.

Because although the United States doesn't prohibit vehicle modifications, they cannot be done haphazardly.

Once a vehicle is determined to be illegally modified, the modifier faces at least detention, a prison sentence, and a fine.

Neither of them noticed that, imperceptibly, the rhythm within the interrogation room had been quietly seized by Hunter.

Over an hour later, the questioning ended.

Hunter was asked many questions, including how he met Slater and how they came to live together.

Having prepared for this long ago, he answered everything calmly and composedly.

Since they couldn't find a breakthrough with him, the Los Angeles police were also deliberately misled by Hunter.

They prepared to start a serious investigation into the true identities of Charlie and the others; after all, they had sought someone to modify their cars over a month ago.

No matter how one looked at it, there was something strange about this.

"Mr. Hunter Sun, while we in the police force appreciate your cooperation with our investigation,"

"we must also solemnly warn you that because you provided illegal vehicle modifications, you have violated relevant federal laws."

"We will file a lawsuit against you at an appropriate time."

"Until then, you are temporarily restricted from leaving California."

At the entrance of the Los Angeles Police Department, Hunter was personally escorted out by the two officers who had just interrogated him.

Facing their serious warning, Hunter naturally agreed repeatedly.

"Alright, officers. I promise I won't leave California during this time."

It was just a lawsuit!

In the United States, where the judicial system is 'perfect,' even if one commits murder—

as long as the evidence isn't complete, even if a judicial lawsuit is filed,

those legal bastards in the U.S. who only care about money can help their clients get out on bail successfully.

Moreover, the 'crimes' Hunter had exposed on the surface were not major offenses at all.

Even if sentenced, it would only be a period of detention and a certain fine.

Previously, Hunter had even been able to bail out Dominic and his crew.

Bailing himself out would be even easier; he was confident he wouldn't even have to step into a detention center.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries with the two officers, Hunter quickly departed.

The two officers watched his figure recede and then began to converse in low voices.

"How much of what that asian said do you think is true?"

"Are you doubting him? I don't think he's a big suspect. Looking at the scene, it should be the work of a professional killer."

"Mm, indeed. Two died under a sniper rifle, and one was killed directly by gunfire after someone broke into a heavily secured private hospital."

"Right, I've been to the scene. Those two who died from the sniper rifle should be the work of one person; we can't be sure about the other one."

As they talked, the two officers looked at each other, both seeing the doubt and seriousness on the other's face.

"By the way, that guy named Lyle is still being questioned. He's a bit flustered and doesn't seem to know much. Although he mentioned Hunter Sun is a suspect, he can't produce any evidence."

(Indeed)

"We've investigated that asian. Although he frequently visits shooting clubs and has records of purchasing rifles, he has no record of military service and is only eighteen years old. He shouldn't have the ability to kill three people in a row within a few hours in one night."

"His girlfriend, Slater, also testified for him, saying they were together all night yesterday."

"Hunter Sun's testimony mostly matches Lyle's. However, he says he doesn't know the other two victims. Maybe we should interrogate Lyle again."

"Good idea. The Chief is still waiting for a report."

"It can't be helped. In a private hospital where many politicians, celebrities, and wealthy people stay, a patient in a VIP room was killed, shot three times. Not only are they panicking, but the hospital is also very angry and has put pressure on our department to solve the case as soon as possible."

The two sighed in unison, then turned and walked back into the police station to continue their busy work...
