People who are two-faced usually forget which mask they are wearing at some point.
As soon as Zane walked further from the Cathedral, the Emberlord paid attention to Kairon.
He closed the gates of the Cathedral and held Kairon by his hair.
He barked about how the Enforcer wasn't able to kill one little boy. Heck, the Emberlord even blamed Kairon for not being able to kill Milo when it was Coin who was supposed to do that.
Coin wasn't able to kill Milo.
He wasn't able to prove Zane guilty.
If anyone, it was Coin who failed.
Not Kairon.
Not Zane.
But of course, the Enforcer could never say that.
He cannot blame the Emberlord.
So instead of blaming, Kairon simply asked for forgiveness.
"No. No. Please. One more chance. Give me one last chance, sire. I won't disappoint you. Don't kill me!"
Coin clenched Kairon's mouth.
He held it with his fingers, narrowing it.
"One last chance. I am giving you one last chance. Do anything. Anything to make sure, to make sure…"
