Chapter 3: 2 Students?
(Tamable beast shop) 8:00 am
Eric coddling Emily in his shoulders looked down at the ball of fur being held by Ora after about 3 seconds the blue light appeared. [Yin Yang Panda Bao Age: .3 A small to medium beast talented in light and dark magic Talent: Unique Can evolve] As Eric saw the information he looked through his memory and found that the yin yang panda evolved to a legendary beast, but was notoriously hard to evolve to the next level.
A smile formed on Eric's face as he was led into a private area to speak to the manager of this Tamable beast pet shop. He could see Emily was obviously destined to some beasts of course he wouldn't be upset with her making a contract and awakening the taming abilities. "But what makes someone tame a beast and awaken their magic at once" he thought to himself as he sat down.
The manager was a slightly younger woman than Eric, or she looked to be. Noticing Emily crying in his arms she spoke in a soft voice "we understand that you would like to pay more than our buy price..." she glared at Brad and added a cough "but we must decline."
Eric looked confused and was about to say something when she continued saying "I'm Lauren the store manager please let me explain what I mean...." Eric simply nodded his head and let her continue "the state allows us to sell a pet beast that goes through link taming at cost and supplement our taxes for the rest of the value" Lauren looked at Eric and waited for a response.
Eric, a little stunned by her words, simply laughed "I am glad to hear that. I do have a question, what is this link taming" he asked. Looking through the memories Eric doesn't know this at all. That's not too strange as he never attended a beast taming school, so he was curious.
Lauren was a little surprised Eric didn't know but you couldn't tell by her reaction as she answered with a smile the moment he finished his question "link taming is when a beast feels a link through the person and chooses to form a bond with them".
Brad quickly thought of something and asked "how many children have had their first beast through link taming?" Lauren glared at Brad again, this time he shivered as she said "I don't know the answer to that but I know it's less than 1'000".
Eric also thought for a moment before adding "how many people have awakened their beast tamer talent through link taming?" Lauren looked up to think of the number then said in a hushed but excited voice "wait, are you saying you haven't finished teaching her yet" Eric shook his head no, Lauren started to calm down when Eric said "I haven't even started her lessons on basic mana control yet.. I was waiting until later this week" he got a little shy saying the last bit.
Lauren got up and closed the door behind Eric leaving a very surprised and confused Brad outside. She quickly sat back down and looked at Eric saying very seriously "sir I should go a little more into detail on link taming" Eric simply nodded in his head he was feeling like tonight he was going to do some proper learning about this world.
Lauren let out a heavy breath as she started to explain "when a beast and a tamer usually go together they go through a contract, something that establishes fair rules for both parties... when a pet beast senses someone has great potential they hope to be named by them so they can link to them" she paused for a moment. Then her voice got more serious as she continued "they usually sense how much a person's body has circulating through them, if what you said is true i suggest you go to the Beast tamers society to have her checked on by a doctor."
Eric then extended a hand to her and said "then I must go". Lauren quickly got up and shook his hand then said "it will be easier if you just follow me into the Beast taming society... my family has quite the connection with them" it seemed she hesitated to say the last part but Eric was too concerned to care why she might hesitate and instantly accepted. Lauren formed a smile and said "lets go call my beast she's waiting outside, she can fly us to the Beast taming society.
As they left the room Lauren whispered to Brad who shook his head in understanding and headed towards the elevator as she and Eric holding Emily walked outside. She pulled out a whistle carved from wood and blew into it, no noise came out but Eric heard a loud flapping sound approach them as he turned around.
Fwoosh a giant eagle landed right in front of where Eric's standing. He took a few steps back and it was indeed an eagle just much larger. Before Eric could see the blue screen Lauren started her introductions quickly saying "This is Tian my pride and joy, she's a giant wind falcon a mid level beast"
As Lauren finished her introduction Emily perked up for the first time when she had heard that this was a mid level beast and one of the first she could see this close to her. She finally stopped the last bit of sniveling that she could muster and looked at the giant bird that was almost twice the size of her dad.
When Lauren said "lets get on her to go to the taming society" Emily practically jumped with joy and approached the beast she made sure to ask before petting the wind falcon. Lauren simply nodded her head and the beast lowered itself so its head was at the level of Emily.
Emily happily started petting the beast then she seemed to remember something and grabbed the ball of fur Ora was still holding until this moment. Bao was sleeping until his owner picked him up, he let out a light yawn and looked into Emily's eyes as she started to say "I'm sorry i got scared, I'll take good care of you"
Bao tilted its head confused and simply walked around her palm. Emily smiled and pointed to her shoulder as she said "would you like to lay here for a little bit" Bao stopped, looked at her shoulder then nodded its head. Emily put the panda on her shoulder and smiled, she then immediately went back to petting the wind eagle again.
Eric and Lauren stood by just letting her pet the beast. Eric trusted someone who could manage a tamable beast shop to know what their beast would allow. Looking at the beast he got the blue window again [Tian Large Wind Eagle A large beast capable of moving wind with its wings and mana manipulation Beast talent: High Can evolve]
Eric smiled and thought to himself "thank the heavens I didn't say anything about it being an eagle it seems certain animals have been mistranslated... I wonder if that's only on our planet" while pondering Emily finished her petting of Tian and Lauren instructed both her and Eric how to sit on Tian "just sit on her back with your legs crossed shell use wind magic to support us and keep us from falling"
Emily nodded her head and stepped up to the front of Tian's wing span and did as instructed. Eric followed closely behind and did the same. He thought it was strange Lauren wasn't getting on but what happened next really made him feel like he had a lot to learn.
One second Eric, Emily and Tian were on the floor and the next they were high in the air with one flap of the bird's wings, and next to them floating in the wind beside them was Lauren. Eric, surprised, still held onto the last bit of sensibility he had and decided to ask questions later.
"It would be hard to answer questions while mid air anyways" Eric thought to himself. Luckily it didn't take long for the beast taming society building to start to get closer and after about 5 minutes they were there.
Eric still held back on questioning her until Emily had her check-up... she didn't look unhealthy but with how serious Lauren was, he was going to take zero chances that something would be wrong. The giant bird landing got quite a few people to look in their direction but they just continued on. After all, even if not common it's not too rare to see a mid level best especially at the beast taming society.
As they entered the building they were greeted by a man who looked slightly older who quickly walked up and bowed his head saying "Mrs. Fennek we noticed your Wind Falcon flying down from outside, what seems to be the problem".
Lauren expected this but couldn't help but give an annoyed look and a slight cough before slightly pushing Eric forward saying "this fellow's daughter needs a checkup... we should speak in private" she finished looking around seeing a bunch of eyes on them so she didn't want to say too much.
The slightly older man simply shaking his head led them further into the building. Once they reached the 4th floor they arrived at a reception desk where they all just walked past with the doors opening automatically for them.
Once they arrived at a slightly huge looking hospital room the slightly older man asked Eric "sir can you inform me what is wrong with your daughter" Eric nodded than after a few seconds he looked towards Lauren saying "Mrs. Lauren should be able to explain it better than I can I'm hearing about this for the first time really"
Lauren nodded her head giving a slight smile towards Eric then saying "Director Evans, as you know I'm currently working as the manager for the Tamable Beast shops of this area. This little girl seems to have awoken as a tamer without being taught how to manage mana first"
As the last words left her mouth Director Evans mouth went agape for a moment before he seemed to shake his head and go back to normal. He looked at Eric a mix of concern and a little bit of pride were mixed in at the same time.
Director Evans quickly came to his senses and asked Eric "do you mind if we do a check up on you and your daughter"
Eric smiled and said "of course but it's not necessary for you to do a check up on me"
Director Evans' face darkened as he said "I will have to insist, magical events… especially those of the taming nature must be studied thoroughly. We still don't know if either you or her are in danger and as such we will investigate further."
Eric didn't know how to respond… he didn't know if they could tell that he was another person, but with these arguments if he was to try to get out of it further he'd surely be more suspicious.
So he decided to go with their tests and hope they couldn't see that he had transferred to this world. Eric shook his head saying "well then I won't argue with you on this"
Director Evans immediately after hearing this confirmation sent a message on his phone. He then glanced at the little bear on Emily's shoulder. He paused for a moment before saying "that beast is quite cute..." after a short pause he seemed to build up a little more courage, and asked "can I pet it"
Emily giggled and said "Of course, he is cute isn't he". As she put Bao into her hands the little panda looked prideful that his owner called him cute. So he sat in her hands letting himself be pet.
After a minute of the director petting and observing the little bear the door was knocked on. The director let in a younger looking female and another male slightly older than Eric, They were both carrying suitcases and being followed by their own medical beasts.
Eric looking closely say two blue screens [Medi man Age:6 A metallic humanoid that's talented in healing magic Talent: High Can Evolve] [Medi child Age 2: A small humanoid that can use healing magic Talent High Can Evolve]
The male doctor, seeing an impressed look in Eric's eyes nodded and introduced himself "Hello, I'm Dr. Morrison, I'll be doing your checkup while my mentee will help your daughter with hers." Eric simply nodded, slightly impressed that Director Evans was able to communicate their needs in a few seconds.
The younger doctor approached Emily saying gently "Hello I'm Amelia I've come to do a check-up on you today" she smiled and held out a patch "may I attach this to your wrist". Emily looked towards Eric who simply nodded his head and she nodded her head at Amelia and held out her wrist.
Amelia attached the device to Emily and Dr. Morrison did the same to Eric. They looked at some numbers appearing on the screens inside their briefcases. Dr. Morrison looked over the data and didn't show any changes in his facial appearances as he said "wait, here a moment".
Dr Morrison got up and walked to Amelia who was looking at the data on her screen. He looked at the data, nodded his head and whispered into Amelia's ear. When he approached Eric he had a slight smile on his face.
Dr. Morrison walked up to Eric and said "it seems your daughter has excellent talent. There is nothing wrong with her physical condition and seems to have started to naturally gather mana as she has aged... This is wonderful news but" he paused and looked towards Amelia and let out a loud cough.
Amelia, hearing the que immediately got to work saying "Emily wants to meet my Rainbow Fairy, it should be just across the hall." Emily hearing this perked up and said "yes, dad can I go" Eric was a little surprised by Dr. Morrison and Amelia's actions simply nodded knowing Dr. Morrison most likely needs to speak to him alone.
It seems Eric was right because right after Emily and Amelia left he escorted Director Evans and Lauren outside. As he closed the door he no longer had the same smile on his face. Now he looked... upset? Eric wondered why.
It didn't take long for Dr. Morrison stood in front of Eric and let out a heavy sigh he put his hand on Eric's shoulder and said "I understand wanting to get stronger but you could have killed yourself... you shouldn't have forced an evolution to mid grade." He paused before adding "and please don't contract a 2nd beast until you have succeeded in matching a mid level humans mana."
Eric couldn't help but look completely shocked. His thoughts stirring "is this why I can't remember everything perfectly, I can remember being Eric but I can't remember my previous life too well except for being a professor... I also couldn't remember what happened to Eric last night but it seems like I learned, the poor man just wanted to get stronger to support his daughter... now I really don't know how to feel"
It took a moment but he came back to himself and looked at Dr. Morrison saying "I understand thank you, It seems like I truly am lucky." Eric tried his best to hold a genuine smile but it was shaky at best.
Dr. Morrison said nothing further shaking his head in understanding. As if sensing the awkwardness Medi man pulled the doctor's sleeve. Dr. Morrison smiled and said "yes we can go to other patients now" he paused as he headed to the door saying to Eric "For the next week come to my office and get checked up on by me... if your energy levels can get to mid range then you won't have to worry"
Before Eric could say anything Dr. Morrison had closed the door behind him. Eric, feeling a little stuck, stayed in thought. "I wonder if Ora getting to mid grade means i can look again... well even that will be too early I need to make some money." He had some thoughts for this but he was going to do a lot of research when he got home.
In the next few moments that he waited for Emily he looked at Ora and said "before we go to sleep you have to let me see the changes the natural fire mana might have caused." Ora nodded his head in understanding.
Emily was escorted back in by Lauren who said "Nurse Amelia stepped out for a surgery... Emily got to see Rainbow Fairy but not for too long, would you like me to escort you back to the Tamable beast store?"
Eric sensed her being genuine and had no reason to decline so just like the approach to the Beast Taming Society it didn't take long to reach the Tamable Beast Shop.
Eric and Emily headed straight home from there "I should let Emily play with Bao and Sero while i do research

4 hours later
Eric had prepared a light lunch and stepped outside where he was met by Sero's parents. Mathew and Bridgette, who upon seeing the plate in Eric's hands smiled at him Bridgette taking the lead said "my husband made lunch for the children we would like to have a conversation... I trust your Ora to watch them for a short time and this shouldn't take long"
Eric was a little surprised but didn't deny them and simply nodded his head. They entered and sat down as Eric brought them tea Bridgette simply started with "I would like you to teach Sero how to become a tamer."
Eric wasn't too surprised with Emily awakening; they must have assumed that he helped her. He didn't want to lose a possible student especially with what he learned while studying, but he didn't want to lie so he simply stated "I understand why you'd think that I taught her but Emily awakened alone..." he paused adding "I did plan on teaching her after this week, so I would be willing to teach Sero while I teach her how to control her mana and her beast."
Hearing the first part Bridgette had a complex look on her face but then Eric said the second part and she sighed in relief saying "I couldn't awaken as a beast tamer even though I have talent as a mage... I truly hope for better for my son, so thank you".
Eric hearing this said "I can't guarantee you anything, just that ill try my best". Bridgette smiled and said "I just hope you are earnest in teaching my son."
Eric nodded saying "I really do plan to... I plan on becoming a teacher in a few weeks so teaching 2 students should help me find a great job."
Bridgette and Matthew looked at each other for a moment before Matthew laughed and said "well I wish you luck then".
As Matthew and Bridgette left the house Eric had to go back in and do some more research. He now had 2 students somehow.
