Jin Yue did not look back as he walked away. The lantern light gradually faded behind him while he crossed into the darker stretch of tents, where shadows overlapped and the camp's earlier tension softened into quiet murmurs. Conversations blended with distant laughter, and the low crackle of banked fire pits created the illusion of normalcy. Behind him, Jun Kai did not call out. He remained standing where the moonlight thinned across the ground, motionless, watching the space Jin Yue had just vacated as though something unseen still lingered there.
The air felt different now. Not because Jin Yue had left... but because of what had remained between them.
