Chapter 7 - Assassination

Death's Cross... How did the news of me being weak get across to them this fast? Thinking about the evidence, and the security of the holy Kingdom. There was no way for an organization not specialized in gathering information to get the news this fast.

The only conclusion being there was a spy that was relaying information to the black market or an organization specialized in information!

"Gnh.." he winced, as the blade dug a bit deeper. With great force, he pulled his hand back, blood splattering onto the floor and his clothes, dyeing it crimson.

Twisting his body, he slammed his left fist into the assassin's abdomen. Only to meet the assassin's palm, as with swift movement. The assassin slashed Riento's forearm, causing blood to splatter all over.

Pain receptors shot through his body, unable to numb the pain quick enough as Riento whimpered. "Angh!"

Brows furrowing even more, as his chest rose slow and fell fast.

This assassin was definitely experienced! I don't have a way to attack! Crap! What do I do?! Panic rose, as Riento gathered his thoughts not knowing what to do.

Using common sense, Riento used his lower body as he jumped back. Creating distance between him and the assassin, this was the best decision he could make in this situation! Fighting back without a weapon was futile! He was too slow and too weak against an assassin who most likely uses an aura core!

"Guards!" His voice called out with desperate urgency.

The assassin with wide eyes stared at Riento for a few seconds, before smiling slyly. "No one is going to hear you scream for help."

What? The revelation hit Riento's ears. He quickly gathered atmospheric mana into his eyes at a moment's notice, the way it moved through his veins showed his urgency. As he looked around the room.

The wall was surrounded and covered by an illusory and brilliant ever-changing mist! A mana wall! Mana?! Is it to stop any outside interference and to stop anything from the inside to not escape it's grasp? Damn it! I should've known, no assassin would have came in barging without preparation!

Riento's eyes quickly darted around the room, trying to find a weapon or a tool he could use as a makeshift weapon, before landing on a black slate in the corner of the room behind him. A black slate? Is it that black iron slate from riento's memories? Why is that here? Shouldn't that be in the strongroom? After all it carries magical properti—

Slash!

"Did you really think i would let you gather your thoughts?" The assassin's hoarse voice cut through the silence. Forcing Riento to stagger back with great shock.

Eek! Riento silently winced, as he turned his body around and dashed for the black slate.

Bang!

Bloodlust once more rang throughout the room, alerting riento's senses. Making him push himself to the side, barely dodging a hidden weapon!

A poison covered needle! Paralysis poison! He was planning to make me unable to move, damn this! Why did I have to transmigrate into someone with high importance?! Riento silently complained.

He kicked off the ground, lunging forward in a desperate sprint. He snatched up the black slate and spun, bracing it with both hands just in time to catch another needle.

Clang!

The needle pierced into the wooden floor, ringing through the silent room like a warning. Eek! Another one!

How do I use this as a weapon! This is too heavy! His arms loosened at the slate's weight, it could be estimated around 165lb!

His left arm shot beside him, tightening his grip around the slate. As he grabbed the wooden chair beside him, throwing it with all his might towards the attacker.

I don't mind becoming a cockroach! I just want to survive! He lampooned even while in this dangerous situation, it was to calm his thoughts.

Slam!

The assassin had slammed the pommel of his dagger into the flat side of the chair with great force!

The chair broke into pieces, shocking Riento with how easy it was broken! What the— with no time to think, he turned his head sideways dodging yet another paralytic needle.

His eyes following the needle with unmatched focus. He once more got into the state of 'trance'! His eyes quickly landed back onto the assassin, and how his body moved. Analyzing it with great efficiency.

The assassin had a small build, allowing for better movement through small places most would not be able to fit in. In order to compensate for his small height, his legs would have to be way stronger as to reach places his height couldn't.

Riento twisted his body sideways, dodging yet another paralytic needle.

His pupils had dilated! As they landed back onto the figure of the assassin.

The hoarse voice of the assassin cut through the silence of the room, almost snapping Riento out of his focus. "I may have let you rein in your thoughts at the start.

"But don't mistake that for mercy." He lunged forward, pulling back his right arm.

In just two seconds the assassin was already in front of riento. Slicing down with the dagger using the momentum of his lunge.

Slice!

Riento was too late to block it, instead of suffering a fatal injury, he has decided to take the blunt on a non-fatal area!

He twisted his body, making the dagger slice his left forearm. Blood splattering onto riento's face, some even getting into his left eye.

"Angh—!" Riento hurriedly closed his left eye after getting blood splattered into it.

He gripped the black slate tighter, smashing the sharp jagged-edge of the slate into the jaw of the assassin, a crisp sound of cracking resounded in each individual's ear.

The sheer blunt force of the slate sent the man ragdolling to his side, rolling his body in order to minimize the damage. Landing back onto his feet, sliding back a few feet.

As the assassin coughed blood onto the floor, holding his left cheek with his left hand, which was clearly injured! Blood dripping out where the slate made contact. It was clear his jaw was broken.

The man looked down on his bloodied palm, and back at the blonde-haired man infront of him.

The man had a look of disbelief, before he let out a deep chuckle. "How barbaric of you saint, shouldn't you be putting the dead to rest and not make one?" The assassin joked with a smile of a maniac.

His voice cut through Riento's 'trance' as Riento coughed out blood, blood gushing out his nose for two seconds. This was the result of someone snapping one out of a 'trance'!

Forcing Riento down to his knees, dropping the black slate onto the floor with a thud.

Boom!

"Gnh!" He coughed out blood multiple times, holding his throat.

W-what? What just happened? Staring at the blood he just coughed out and gushed out from his nose. Riento stared in disbelief.

His dilated pupils returning to normal, looking back up at the assassin who now had an injury to his jaw!

When did that happen? Did I do that? Riento stared at the Injury he inflicted, then all the hairs on his body stood up! His sixth sense warning him of the intense bloodlust directed at him.

Suddenly Riento jerked his body sideways dodging yet another paralytic needle he almost didn't notice if not for the bloodlust the assassin emitted!

He landed on his shoulder, almost dislocating it from the suddenness.

"Ngh!" Riento let out another grunt, coughing out another mouthful of blood. As he quickly got up onto his feet.

His eyes darted around the room for any weapon, before landing on the black iron slate beside him.

Without any second thought, Riento grabbed the slate tightly, covering his head and deflecting another paralytic needle to the head.

Moving the slate to his chest in one swift motion, causing another paralytic needle to hit and get deflected. predicting and moving according to his predictions and blocking the needles! As he solely relied on his mind.

Then without warning, he couldn't stop his arms from failing him, as the black iron slate smashed into the wooden flooring.

With nothing to block the next needle, he went down with the slate, barely dodging a paralytic needle by an inch.

"Tch, no more needles left." The assassin grumbled, dashing forward towards riento.

He in response, lunged forward along with the heavy slate. Making the assassin hit the mana wall! Though the effect wasn't as intended. He swiftly changed his position, landing vertically onto the wall using mana to stick to it.

Just as the assassin lunged for Riento, Riento rolled sideways and got up onto his knees with one motion.

This assassin is a third-rate! He only has experience going for him... Riento hypothesized, chest rising slowly and falling rapidly.

One of his eyes was half-closed, sweat running down his body. I need to think of a way to inform the guards!

He twisted his body, dashing sideways dodging yet another attack of the assassin, as his dagger slammed into the wooden floor.

Slam!

Without thinking, he subconsciously began gathering mana in his right arm. Veins bulging with an seven brilliant colors underneath his skin, his long sleeve blocking the assassin from noticing.

The assassin lunged for him once more, making Riento hold the black slate in front of him, the dagger slicing into the floor with a thud.

Using this chance, Riento slammed his legs into the head of the assassin, which he managed to block with his palm, as he got sent back a feet away.

Riento ran to the far side of the room, near his bed to create distance.

A faint mist began to cover riento's arm, as his veins began bulging out even reaching his neck!

The assassin looked at Riento with a smile, lunging at him once more.

Why are my veins bulging? Why am I gathering mana? He asked himself, slamming the jagged-edge of the black slate onto the flat side of the dagger.

At the same time, he slammed his knee upwards towards the intruder's abdomen. Which the assassin managed to block with his hand.

As he twisted his body, rolling to minimize the damage.

"You're quite good at this." The assassin commented leisurely even with an injury to his jaw.

A faint warmth overtook every sensation in his right arm, as his veins felt like they were being pierced by a thousand blades while also being soothed.

"Angh..." He grunted, staring back at the assassin who had his lips curled upwards.

Brows furrowed, wrinkling his forehead. He was thankful most of his hair had been tied back.

His limbs trembled with a searing pain and warmth, blood trickling down the injury of his left arm, his palm, right forearm. Dyeing his clothes crimson and dripping down onto the floor.

Fingers tightening around the ancient black slate.

The interaction had forced him once more to his knees, using the slate as balance as to not collapse.

The assassin seeing his state, immediately showed a wide creepy smile, as he rushed forward showing his impatience.

It was clear he had enough of playing around, he had given Riento enough hope already.

The assassin licked his lips in delight enjoying the moment.

As the blade swiftly pierced Riento's chest, pushing his back to the bed frame, as Riento let go off the slate. Fingers twitching.

Blood oozed down his mouth, as he coughed out blood. Splattering onto the assassin's face.

Riento's breathing quickened, even though the blade pierced quickly, slicing his skin cleanly, everything still felt like he was burning.

He instinctively opened his mouth to speak, but no air or sound came out. His eyes shook with fear.

His left arm held the assassin's hand, as he looked up at him.

"..." The sound of heavy breathing filled the silence of the room.

Riento's right fist tightened, as his fist met the side of the assassin's ribs.

Before his fist caved in the assassin's ribcage with a loud crack! The assassin's ribcage had caved in! Injuring his lungs in the process!

Crack!

Crash!

The assassin was sent flying into the mist covered mana wall, making it crack before being destroyed.

The assassin coughed out a mouthful of blood, crashing straight through the wall.

Crash!

Riento slowly laid slump on the bedframe, breathing heavy and slow.

A hot, searing pain shot through his right arm! Veins bulging to the maximum, no shout or scream left his mouth.

"...!" His jaw tightened, eyes shaking with fear, as he vomited out more blood.

The blade still stuck in his chest.

"SAINT!" Two guards rushed in with urgency, as they quickly carried Riento.

The other guard arrested the assassin who had his ribcage caved in.

"Don't die on us!" The guards cried out, as Riento slowly closed his eyes.
