Chapter 22 - THE DEVIL IN THE DETAILS (2)

MALEDICTION (15)

Fragments are said to be a means through which humans achieve sorcery. Ordinary people were blessed with the ability to use said sorcery. Where it came from and how people are able to use it is another story all together.

"The most important thing is too always remember that just because you can't see the energy doesn't mean its their."

(4HRS & 10MIN AGO)

"Tell me what do you know by the word physics?" Blake asked.

"It's a science… I think like Biology and Alchemy." Gil answered. He was getting tired of standing in that one position for such a long time, but didn't want to complain.

"Yes, but more accurately its one that deals with how time and space interact. But most importantly there is one thing we're interested in."

On the ground, using a stick, Blake wrote a word.

ENERGY

"The basis of our second lesson. Energy is the ability to do work, depending on how much work can be done we say that something has a lot or less energy."

"Like running, that takes energy." Gil said with a smug face.

"Yes, like running, let's say you're running 5km and I'm running 10km, which one of us requires more energy?"

 "You."

 "Why?"

"Because you're running a longer distance than me."

"100 points. But energy can be classified into many types:

Mechanical energy. Chemical energy. Sound energy. Heat energy. Electrical energy. Light energy.

Where can we classify running on this?"

Gil thought heard for a moment, "That's tricky."

 "How so?"

"Because, I learnt from my Biology classes back at the church that the process by which cells make energy from the breakdown of food is called respiration…"

 "And?"

"And because there are enzymes involved I'd say that respiration is a chemical energy, which allows the body muscles to function."

"50 points. Yes and no, here is where we need a bit more clarity. The reason they don't teach physics in schools or churches is because of its tendency to be a bit hard to grasp for some people. But there is something important we have to learn here, its crucial you pay close attention."

 Gil nodded.

Blake drew a diagram on the floor, circles enclosing words, he drew lines which connected them.

THE LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY

"It states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be generated, reflected, absorbed or converted into another form of energy."

"Does that mean you can convert fragment energy to another type of energy?"

"Yes, fragment energy can be converted to all types of energy listed above, but for today's lesson only one of those types is important." He paused for a moment, "But I'll let you figure that one out."

"But how?" Gil was a bit worried about this, especially since Blake had refused to go with him.

"The devil is always in the details, Gil."

PRESENT TIME!

They say your life flashes before your eyes when you die, however, Gil did not know the people sitting before him. To his left three little girls with dolls on their laps, their hair braided into lines that ran across their heads. To his right the same number of boys, they had balls with a colour pallet of black and what, their heads shaved.

They sat on a long table, like the ones you see in old-timely castles, on it wasn't a feast for the eyes. Eyeballs in a bowl, rotten green flesh on the plates, and red blood in the glass.

"Would you like a drink sir?" One of the boys asked looking at him, his gaze piercing his skin.

"No thanks." Gil said with a smile, asking where he was felt sort of irrelevant.

"Please do try a piece." One of the girls said, "Our chef put everything into this meal."

"Oh please, Jessica, he's barely touched the food on his plate and you want him to try something else?" A boy lectured his sister on the correct table manners.

'Where even am I?" Gil thought, 'Last thing I remember was coming face to face with a talking corpse, then I ran. I felt a type of fear I hadn't felt before, one mixed with hopelessness and dread.'

"Kind sir, what is the matter?" The girl sitting next to him asked, her voice as sweet as her smile.

"Oh, its nothing, I just happen to wonder how I ended up in a place like this."

"Well, we found you on our front door step, soaked in blood and muck from our garden." A boy explained.

"It would have appeared you were running from something, tell us kind sir, what were you running from?" Another boy asked.

"A talking corp… I mean demons, I was running from demons." Gil changed his answer quickly. 'I don't know where exactly I am, however, I do know that whatever that thing was it must be working with these people.'

"Demons, like from hell?" A girl asked, clearly distressed, "Dear, poor thing."

"Is that what's been going on outside, heard screaming but I couldn't tell what it was about."

"I thought it to be more witches."

"I too thought it to be more witches."

"However, it would appear as though the problem wasn't with witches but rather demons."

"Yes, demons… which kind of demons?" The children turned to Gil with expectant faces.

"Type of demon?" Gil froze, he always thought there was only one type.

"Yes, there are multiple types depending on your country and mythology, I have a whole book on them. Would you perhaps like to see?"

"Come on Jen, you'll scare him away with all your none sense." The same boy with the commanding voice spoke, "Please good sir, finish you're meal. It must have truly been a dreadful journey, let us take care of you tonight and you may leave in the morning."

 "Yes, dig in."

They all pointed to his food. Gil looked down at his plate and a human brain looked back up at him.

 ***************************************************

Catherine had never seen her face after she was 12. Aging into her teens she barely knew what she looked like, only taking note of what other people said about her.

 "Such a pretty face."

"You're legs are so slender, its delicious."

"Your breasts are as plump as ever today dear."

By other people I mean the Bishop, only he had ever seen her naked. Personally it was something she didn't like remembering, and it was something that made her hate her body even more.

The reason I bring this up is because she could faintly see her reflection in a pool of accumulated water.

"Gil fell in here, face first. He's too clumsy for his own good."

She continued following the trail of his blood. 'He was so scared, I've never seen his face like that.'

HORRFYING

'The personification of horror. He tripped a few times before coming this way.' She followed the cobblestone path that led seemed to be a circular path.

'At the centre is the house of one of those noble men or whatever, Gil must have found his way inside. Whoever it is we're trying to free, I'm starting to wonder if he's worth it or not.'

Catherine made her way to the stairs that led to the porch outside the house. "Here I go."

She reached her hand which passed throught the white wall, then her elbow, then her entire body.
