Chapter 33 - POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE

MALEDICTION (25): END!

Gil deduced ,from what Catherine told him, that there was only one way of breaking that glass was by killing one more of the children. If the pressure that Blake was talking about is coming from all of them combined then if the eldest had left, two of the brothers are dead and its already breaking this much, then removing one of the remaining ones form the equation would be an order.

'The eldest was probably the strongest one in the house, meaning that he contributed more than 50% of the pressure, in that case…'

"I'll take out the youngest sister." He told Catherine.

 "Youngest sister?"

 "The one in the dress."

Catherine shuddered. "You got to be careful, I don't know what it is but she can make you feel things."

 "?"

"On a much more deeper level, she messes with your senses I think… she made me start questioning my life and importance, I don't know what it is."

Gil understood and nodded. "Don't worry, I'll take care of it just stay safe until then."

'I understand.' The two were now running parallel to each other. 'She has the power to…

ENHANCE EMOTIONS!

When we first arrived I was already afraid, but then suddenly the fear I felt was enough to split my head in two. Those crows that watched me, that was her. Dealing with that shouldn't be too difficult, but the thing I need to watch out for is her.'

The youngest went for an attack straight for his eye, but to her surprise Gil managed to dodge that, he reached out for her hand but she pulled back. She was still faster than him.

'I need to be faster than her, which means I have to do the thing I did earlier when I was with the middle brother is that I used fragment energy to enhance my muscle speed.' He was able to achieve this by making his brain receive signals from certain muscle parts at an incredible speed which allowed for him to move faster.

'But it doesn't look like she's doing that. Even with a dress as long as that she's still able to keep up without using fragment energy to enhance her muscles. It means that she's just using her physical speed, amazing.'

This time Gil went in with a punch, the youngest dodged however, but just barely. 'His movements are getting faster, I need to do the same.'

They were about to arrive at the end of the room, but that didn't stop them. How could it, when both of them were just getting heated up? As such instead of turning back, both planted their feet on the wall and began moving, relentlessly exchanging blows.

The youngest didn't fight with fists, rather she opted for palms and nails.

RAPID SUCCESSION!

She moved her hands at such a speed that Gil couldn't even see and it was only after he had been struck that he heard the sound.

'She's faster now than she was before, she's responding to my speed. But I can catch up to. I've realized that whenever I throw punches, a small current passes through, with the amount of speed she has I can't get one punch in directly. So what will I do…"

CUT!

The youngest extended her hand so fast that Gil thought it was still in the same place, if he hadn't moved sooner he would've lost the left side of his face and not just a portion of his left ear.

'Goddamn it, its now or never, it's a stupid idea but I have no other options.'

Gil cam to a stop, but because he was running sideways gravity had decided it was time he came back to the ground. 'With the amount of energy I was using I should be able to…'

As he fell he brought to of his fingers together.

BZZZ!

A blue current passed between both, like a battery sending out electrons on one side to create a potential difference to attract protons and thus the passage of an electric current. He added an additional two fingers, then his hands and soon his entire body.

"What is he…" She ended up coughing blood before she could finish that sentence, this was because Gil's hand had gone through her abdomen.

 "B…ut…h…ow?"

Have you ever wondered how lightning arresters work? Well Gil has, he had wondered for many years, this is because all the cathedral and important buildings built by the white folk had them. In the few occasions he was able to find Blake outside the Cathedral for a Cigar break he had actually asked him.

"Dr.Blake, I hear your pretty smart." Gil had announced.

"Mhh, maybe, why?" He lit his cigar.

"How do those pointy things on the Cathedral work?" He said pointing at the metal rod that extended outward, "I asked one of the knights and they said it catches lightning."

 "You mean the lightning arresters?"

"Yeah, that, how does it work." Clearly seeing the excitement of a child in his eyes he couldn't bring himself not to explain.

"Leaving out the complicated stuff, it basically works by being highly negatively charged. Because the charge is dense the surrounding air molecules are ionized with the production of both positive and negative ions. The negative ions are attracted to the positive charges on the cloud. This prevents a large build up of charges which would otherwise need to be discharged to the earth in form of lightning. And even if it did strike, the huge charges are conducted through this metal to the ground."

"You lost me at negative charges." Gil admitted.

"Mh? Well just think of it as… if you had a high concentration of something in one place if it isn't neutralized it will look for a place of lower concentration and travel there instead and because its lightning it travels faster than the speed of sound."

That's essentially what Gil did, he charged himself ionizing the air around him in a certain direction and when that charge was too great he automatically traveled to a place of the opposite charge, which in this case was the youngest sister. In short all he did was create what we call in physics:

A POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE!

This ensured that he caught her off guard and gave her a fatal wound, one she couldn't recover from easily, then he would be able to finish her off.

Now with one final punch he intended to cleave off her head. But she caught that fist and using the last ounce off her strength was able to push him away and the two fell from an incredible height each landing with a thud on the floor.

"Cough!!" The youngest sister crawled away from Gil, behind her a trail of blood followed, soaking her new dress. She wheezed.

"Impossible, I…I…I wwas suppo…sed to go to the ball tonight."

Her vision was getting blurry and her limbs were getting heavy.

"Dear sister, hel…p… me." She grabbed on to the leg of her elder sister who looked down on her with disgust.

"You are weak, and naturally of no use to me." Her face cold and expressionless.

 "I… want…ed…to…go to…the ball. With Cath…"

The eldest sister raised her leg and with it crushed her younger sister's head with a tear rolling down her eye.

"Gil!" Catherine shouted as she ran to his side, "Your alive right?"

Gil couldn't hear her at all, if his ribs weren't damaged by the fight they were damaged by the fall. His nose was bleeding profusely, his left shoulder was still displaced, his vision was barely there, his entire body ached and he couldn't move a single body muscle.

"Gil wake up she's coming!" Catherine cried, "Please, she'll kill you, Gil please." She tried pushing him, but her hands just went through. "No, no no, GIL WAKE UP!"

She gritted her teeth and got up on her own standing in front of Gil and stretching out her arms, "Stay away!"

But the eldest sister just went through her. It was at that moment that Catherine felt the most helpless. 'Shit! As a ghost I'm useless, I can't interact with anything… I can't even protect my friend. Damn it! I can to help and I'm so useless." She turned tears rolling down her eyes, so helpless, she would never forgive herself no she would never.

Gil just lay their, his vision wonky and his breathing shallow, at that rate he would die of oxygen deprivation rather than blood lose. Now standing over him was a tall figure, the eldest sister.

"You truly were exceptional, but if I let you live you will surpass me and one day kill me, sorry but I can't let that happen. See you in hell, little devil."

Gil couldn't understand until he saw her raising her foot.

'So, I'm I going to die?' He wondered, 'At least, I pray that the curse has been lifted.' He closed his eyes.

 This is the end.

HE DIES AS HE LIVED, A DEVIL 'TILL THE VERY END!

MALEDICTION END!
